Summary: I primarily purchased the extender to watch my converted DVD's in other parts of the house. Even though this extender came with a new version, it still suffers from an extreme lack or video format support.
Pros: Comes with the 1.1 firmware version. Improved menu speed. When a video is properly prepared, it looks nice.
Cons: Slow to start up and slow to play videos. Still locks up during video playback too often. Like others have pointed out, the remote is a complete afterthought and very, very cheap. Limited functionality - why can't extenders support the full media center experience??? Still finicky video support.
Summary: Way over priced if at near retail. I got this for a song (thanks Newegg - you rock!). Wait for a bargain before buying this. It comes with a few complications.
Pros: Integrated DVD Player. 1080P compatible. HDMI 1.3 audio supported. Wireless 802.11n. Cute, small form factor. 5.1 output.
Cons: Painfully slow startup. No audio level control (and volume level fluctuates enormously between MCE digital HD recordings, analog recordings, and MP3 music. It is either too quiet (on digital), loud on analog, or deafeningly loud on MP3's This is OK if you're controlling a TV with it's own remote ...
Summary: I cannot for the life of me understand why they would limit the extenders from playing ripped DVDs. I can play it on my computer in Media Center, but not on the extender. Lots of people with convoluted workarounds of this issue, but for me it's not worth the trouble.
Pros: Seems to do what it was designed to do without much problem.
Cons: I had envisioned myself sitting in my living room, selecting any one of the 130+ movies that I own ripped to my harddrive, and watching them anytime without hunting for the DVD. If this is what you want to do, then don't buy this or any other media center extender. They cannot play ripped DVD fil...
Summary: Have had this for about a week, and have been trying to get it to play Divx, and Mp4. With a lot of playing around on my Vista Media Center, was able to get it to play Mp4, never any success with Divx. Will play Avi with the right codecs loaded on the Mce pc.
Pros: Small size, fair connect to Netgear N router.
Summary: slow to respond; so you should plan ahead on what you're going to watch. a pain to setup.
Pros: nice dvd player. looks well made. Not that many choices out there.
Cons: Setup problems - my WAP key is a full sentence. works fine on PCs but not this device. could not get a wirless connection going until i changes the passphrase to something much shorter. - my media center is connected to a TV with Vista's LARGE FONT at 1024x768. Could not get past license agreemen...
