Good Product but missing DVD playback.

Anyanet, Amazon
29 July 2009
  • Summary: I bought TWO DMA-2100 (no dvd drive) from Amazon and was able to hook it up and get it working on my new wireless N 5 GHz home network. I'm browsing through the elegant Media Center menus to find the reason I bought this thing in the first place - DVD PLAYBACK from my Vista Media Center P.C. -- only to find that FUNCTION IS MISSING!!! After Calling Linksys, SONY(the maker of my PC) and Microsoft...

Is this for you? Here is your answer...

Paul S. Andrews "True knowledge exists in kno..., Amazon

  • Summary: I'm giving this a 3 star rating... reason being as follows: First, I am probably giving this a better rating than a lot of people who have had time to use this product. I originally purchased this item in January this year. Pros: * Easy to set up; * Wireless; * Plays back most common media types including DivX; * The cable company would not run a cable to my bedroom, so this allows me to stream cable wirelessly with my ATI TV Wonder!

Demanding user - so, so performance

TimInChicago, Amazon
15 April 2009
  • Summary: As a family, we are "hook line and sinker" in the Media Center camp for our TV watching. We don't watch a lot of TV and we get all of our HD over the air (we cancelled cable and sat) but we do use the TV quite a bit for media. That said, all of our TV watching is through Media Center including DVR, live TV, archived DVDs, and Amazon Unbox downloads.

Not bad for a $100

L. Hill, Amazon
28 March 2009
  • Summary: Have been running this for a few weeks and am buying another one for my other TV. It mimics most of the Vista Media Center user interface and as such is pretty intuitive to use with the supplied remote. I really like having access to all my MP3s easily while on the couch, and love being able to view my photos and videos too. Note that I had to convert tons of video to MPEG2 to get them to play - it would be nice if the extender had more codecs built in.

Poor Codec Support

M. A. Thompson, Amazon
15 October 2008
  • Summary: Easy setup. Small compact. Have had very little success finding a codec that works. All my videos were ripped with AC3 audio which this device does not like. Converting to WMV9 fixed this problem, but is a pain with a large video collection.
