Do not buy!

Gerald Marek, Amazon
8 May 2008
  • Summary: Like the previous review, I also think that Digital Media is the way of the future. I had high hopes for this device as it support DVR-MS format, except, it does not. Your home PC needs to transcode the DVR-ms files in order for the DSM to work. Said another way - you better have one fast PC.

stay away

Aleksandar Obradovic, Amazon
8 May 2008
  • Summary: Bought this unit along with the Extreme gigabit wireless router. DSM-510 was DOA. Took it back, and got the second one. It is unable to stream consistent video for more than 10 minutes to a room that is one wall and 15 feet away. Save your money and your time and get something else.

  • Cons: out of the box, sealed, new, using hdmi, connect to tv 20 minutes to boot up, bull$hit unplug, swap out monster hdmi cable to toshiba cable, same thing, wait 10 minutes to boot up. finally the setup screen, setup wireless, WPA w/password. blue screen, freezes on reboot. unplug reboot. finally ano...

Incompetent tech support, marginal product

R T., Newegg
3 February 2007
  • Summary: The PC software is Nero Essentials. However the software won't install if you already have Nero 7 on your system. Had to uninstall Nero and then install the software that came with the unit.
  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Unimagineably incompetent tech support. Flaky software. Doesn't support 1080p.
