  • Conclusion: All other connections are on the back side and I really like the options that Boxee provides. Starting off, you have an HDMI port which will be the primary source of connection to your TV for almost everyone. For audio, you have the option of using analog RCA outputs or the digital TOSLink connector.

Boxee Box by D-Link review

Macworld UK
31 January 2012
  • Excerpt: The Boxee Box is somewhat like the Apple TV in that it lacks any onboard storage. However, it does have the distinct advantage of having two USB ports, so you can add external storage to the device should the need arise. As well as the USB ports there’s an Ethernet connection and built-in WiFi. A single HDMI port is the only way to connect the Boxee to your TV. The remote control has a full QWERTY keyboard on one side and a few simple buttons on the other.
  • Pros: Fantastic online services, great user interface, decent remote control, option to add local storage
  • Cons: Not many movies yet, minor bugs, like sites not showing full-screen video

D-Link Boxee Box

What Hi-Fi?
1 July 2011
  • Excerpt: In the streamer spectrum, the D-Link Boxee Box is full-on brain surgery next to the Apple TV ’s GCSE biology. That’s not to put it down. One of the frustrating things about the Apple is that it’s a walled-garden product: want to play your own files? You’re out of luck, pal.The Boxee throws open its doors and welcomes all-comers. And it will play them from a USB drive, over a network, from an SD card, via its integrated web browser and even via a VPN.
  • Pros: Huge array of content, supports almost every main file type, nice design, remote
  • Cons: Not for rookies, confusing interface, flat sound, cumbersome setup
