Summary: ASUS Media Player HD2 is one of the best media players in the market. I've been using a PS3 as a media player for years, but it doesn't support some major needs: PS3 only reads FAT32 formatted HDD's, so a file greater than 4Gb is not possible. Some media formats are also not supported by PS3 like MKV. Also PS3 doesn't have a SUBTITLE support. Other than these, it is a fast media player I must admit.
Summary: Bought to manage and play my dvd iso files, it the does this perfectly, I have 2TB HDD fitted (bought separately). Network features are rubbish (non WiFi version). I was hoping to use it as a home NAS drive but have abandoned this; NAS feature has to be switched manually and write speed is very quite slow over network, Asus CS are terrible no practical help at all. I will be buying a dedicated NAS drive.
Summary: I had a lot of trouble sourcing a media player to play my 4TB external hard drive with a USB 3.0 high speed out let, All of the previous media players i researched could only handle a USB 2 0 outlet, though their technical data did not make this clear and it certainly didn't make it clear regarding a USB 3.0 high speed outlet.
Summary: I took a long time before I bought a medai player, especially as I had experienced considerable problems with Sumvision Cyclone medai player, whose remote control is very flimsy and not worth bothering with. The critics gave this good reviews but stated two main areas of concern:- It was not aesthetically pleasing and the instruction menu was poor.
Summary: Do not purchase this item. Nothing but trouble ie locking up. No help from Asus Technicial Dept - they only have a email access and get a reply 24hrs later by some clerical staff who don't understand technical problems. Thankfully I bought the item throught 'Shop4usb' and they give me a full refund. I would further say - think very carefully before purchasing any other Asus products until they improve their Techincal Service.
Summary: This was bought as either upgrading my video / sound card for TrueHD or a new media server wss going to be expensive. This is my compromise, not that it's a big compromise. It's a bit fiddly installing the disc - but it seems any disc and size will work. I've installed a Barracuda 2TB unit. It Formats the disc to NTFS, so big files no problem. Easy to transfer files from a PC.
Summary: Sometimes works, mostly doesn't. Buy something else. I really have tried to make this thing work, contacted the manufacturer (waste of time), tried on their forum, set up a petition. Nothing. The ASUS Oplay HD2 does not work properly. and I can't be arsed with it anymore.
