Summary: The Apple TV seems to be just a vehicle for selling content. They should give them away. You can get much more control, freedom, and content by connecting a laptop via HDMI cable to your TV. I have a Yamaha receiver connected to my home network via a network bridge. It seems much easier to connect to the network and is far easier to use with the excellent and FREE Yamaha AV Controller app for my android phone.
Excerpt: I bought this hoping to be a bridge between my computers and my TV. It does work well with pictures, and music. But for movies, it cannot even handle simple things like MPEG-2 and AC3 - in fact even the Mac computer cannot handle it, let alone the AppleTV. I am so disappointed I'm giving it away to my friends.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Energy Efficient, Good Remote, Interfaces Well With TV
Summary: The first Apple product I've bought which doesn't work. Will only connect to iTunes library intermittently. Seems that many others have experienced the same problem. Every cure as suggested by other sufferers had been tried to no avail. I've given up now and will be returning it. Shame, because when it did work momentarily it was fine.
Summary: Although Apple TV is generally OK it was: - Delivered slowly by PreisCompany (who clearly do not fit the fast and efficient German stereotype) and gave a 3 week delivery window. - Comes WITHOUT the necessary cables to connect to TV - Comes without a UK plug (which i believe breaches EU guidelines for products sold in UK) - Comes without English instructions.....
Summary: Got Apple TV as a gift but have since brought it back to apple for a refund. Airplay does not work wit skygo. Now TV nor net flicks so was of no use to me. Net flicks has to be set up separately on the appletv apps. There is a choice of 18 apps , mostly American sports channels which require a subscription , YouTube and a couple of free music video channels.
Summary: I bought this thinking it was a upgrade from the Chromecast, and for the price it should be. I wanted to watch Netflix, youtube and my own videos which are on my device (plus my mates videos)so I bought this. It does this quite well, but I was expecting more. It turns out that the Chromecast is far more reliable with my connection, plus there are now apps so I can now stream my own content and its smaller (hides behind my tv).
