Love apple, hate restrictions

Excerpt: I have an iPad and iPhone and wanted a way to stream from them to the tv as well as mirror to view pictures, etc. What I didn't know and don't care for is the limits apple has put on what you can stream (certain channels I can watch through the app on my ipad but not stream or mirror play through Apple TV to TV because apple doesn't want to play well with other entities. Also, when I do airplay tv from an app it keeps giving me errors.
Excerpt: The technology is great, but you still need to have a subscription with a cable company or satellite co to watch most of the apps. Even when you do have a subscription, some of the companies do not allow all of the apps to be used. They definitely need to move to an individual subscription to each app or the entire device. It is a paper weight if you don't have cable or satellite to use the apps. Only recommend if you already pay for cable/satellite.
Pros: Fast Setup, Simple Controls
Cons: Not Many Video Sources, Still Need Subscriptions
Excerpt: I returned this as it was totally useless for me. It is tightly integrated into the iOS platform. You cannot stream directly from your computer, unless its through itunes. Everything has to go through apple software. Till there is a jailbreak for it, stay away unless all you want to do it stream from itunes.
Summary: I ordered this latest version on 11/23/12. As always I order from Crutchfield, the package was delivered very soon and in excellent condition. This was an upgrade from my previous Apple TV 720p vs. this latest version, 1080p. With the previous version I never had any problem. But with this new one had some Netflix streaming problems. After some weeks using for streaming, from Netflix, it didn't work any more.
Pros: Compatible with all Apple products
Cons: Not so compatible with non Apple products, like this one, Netflix
Summary: When first connected, it would not detect any wi-fi connection. Fiddle with it for several hours to no avail. Called Crutchfield tech support and was offered to return the unit at their expense (Fantastic tech support by the way, always helpful and friendly service). Luckily was able to figure it out on my own by resetting it. Under setting, just go to RESET, then it would detect the wi-fi. Has been working fine since then.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Not much features. Occasionally dropping wi-fi, might need to reset the unit to get it reconnected.
Summary: I suppose it is my fault for not realizing, but I bought this with the sole intention of using it on vacation.....only to find that because it doesn't support a web browser, I couldn't enter the password and therefore, couldn't use it. I suppose I will be able to use it at home, however.
