Summary: Great product, but stopped working 2 weeks out. This is the second Apple TV to stop working. The first was out of warranty. Apple did replace the second faulty unit with a new one in a timely fashion. Tech support did their best to resolve the issues, but could not.
Pros: Program access. Easy to use. Compact size. Good service/support.
Summary: If you're into gaming and/or apps, you'll need to go with the latest version at twice the price. However, for streaming movies and tv programming without any of the other bells and whistles, this is still the smartest choice. We also have a Roku 3 and the Apple is definitely more stable.
Pros: Intuitive interface Stable Excellent video and audio quality Good selection of content
Summary: So Apple released this version of the Apple TV many, many years ago - 2012 to be exact (2013 if you want to include the upgraded wifi and bluetooth capabilities) - and it's only become more capable as time has marched on.
Pros: Apple integration Great picture for 1080p Supports Dolby Digital 5.1 audio from many sources Regular software updates Best in class apps to access online streaming services
Cons: 2012 hardware Stuck at 1080p No DD+ 7.1 or any DTS audio Not going to be as capable as the upcoming Apple TV 4
Summary: My son used this at college and suggested it. So, I bought it and also agree that it is awesome. Thankfully, I have multiple "Apple" devices in the house so that when I'm using one to watch a movie (you can also use a laptop), I can still use another device to scroll through my FB feed or other...
Cons: had to buy a USB hub because my TV only has 3 USB inputs and I have multiple devices connected already
Summary: Easy to setup and configure. We use it mainly to watch HBOGO and Netflix. It doesn't have the buffering problems that watching Netflix on our Samsung Blu-Ray has. My son uses the built-in WWE Network app. He also uses AirPlay to show off his iPad games on the TV.
Pros: Easy of setup and use. Smooth video and great sound. AirPlay.
Cons: Can't add additional apps. You need to run some apps off of your iPad or iPhone.
Summary: Makes for a great door stop. After a few months of working, it was showing a picture indicating a cable connection to a computer. Not knowing what this meant had to go on line to look it up. Found out this means connect to iTunes to restore.
