Summary: The Apple tv with the latest update 4.4.2 completely integrates ipad 2, itunes store, netflix streaming and your own media on your computer. Here is a list of items you can do. 1. Watch netflix streaming in a fast, easy to use interface that has an amazing style only apple could do. Its sleek and very nice. 2. Watch the podcasts you love on itunes right from the apple tv. It even tells you when new episodes are available of your favorites. 3.
Summary: I can heartily recommend the Apple TV. It is easy to set up. It connects easily to wifi. It is small. It is silent (no fan). It does not have a wall wart. It has a status light, but it's relatively unobtrusive. It comes with a nice simple hardware remote control that requires line-of-sight to the box. If you have an iOS device and the Remote app, which you can download free from the App Store, you can move the Apple TV out of sight and still control all of its features.
Excellent XBMC Client for networked file playback.

Summary: I started experimenting with XBMC as a movie server platform about two years ago after hitting the limits of what the Western Digital WD TV Live could do in terms of metadata aggregation. At the time there were no inexpensive clients capable of HD playback, leading me to use an HTPC in my main theater but still rely on the inexpensive WD TV boxes in other rooms around the house (bedroom, livingroom, kids' room).
Conclusion: At the end of my day, it's amazing to be able to sit down, relax, and watch a movie on Netflix, stream some video from my iPad or iPhone, or just play around on Youtube, all on my TV screen. Apple TV is a simple little box that makes it possible. I love it. I love the airplay feature, which lets me take any video that I can see on my iPad or iPhone, and throw it up on the TV screen.
Conclusion: Video streaming and wireless connections are the future for home theater. Outstanding Netflix interface and access to iTune music and iPhoto libraries. Streaming lag times are impressively short. Could iTunes rental selections and prices be better? Yes, but that will improve. The picture quality is very good but it does not rival blu ray and there are occasional compression artifacts.
Conclusion: My only gripe is that I can't figure out a way to make my Apple TV wake my computer when I want to what something. Other than that, setup was a breeze, the picture quality is awesome even on videos I have ripped at lower quality settings.
Summary: I'm an owner of 2 original Apple TV's. I hacked both of those to put XBMC ([...]) on them. XBMC lets you stream any video file imaginable to your TV directly from a fileserver. You don't have to have a computer running iTunes to do so. The new Apple TV 2 can be jailbroken with greenpois0n ([...]). Do not update the Apple TV 2 software before jailbreaking though. Once you jailbreak it, you can install XBMC on it.
