Summary: I ordered the Apple TV MC572LL/A (2nd Generation) and paid 300.00. When I recieved the package the outside non-factory plastic was covering the actual model number for the apple T.v. When I opened it I noticed it was the 3rd generation apple T.V. I wrote a review and they replied that and I quote. “This order was fulfilled by Amazon and their warehouse sent the customer the wrong product.
Summary: Got it, hooked it up. It took me a dozen trips back and forth to the den to figure out how to set up my wifi on the tethered iMac (So SOOO many steps, thank god for the internet). Once hooked up it does basically what it says it does. Buffering/Loading of videos takes far too long. I bought it so that I could do my workouts with the youtube videos I like.

Summary: The Apple tv with the latest update 4.4.2 completely integrates ipad 2, itunes store, netflix streaming and your own media on your computer. Here is a list of items you can do. 1. Watch netflix streaming in a fast, easy to use interface that has an amazing style only apple could do. Its sleek and very nice. 2. Watch the podcasts you love on itunes right from the apple tv. It even tells you when new episodes are available of your favorites. 3.
Summary: I can heartily recommend the Apple TV. It is easy to set up. It connects easily to wifi. It is small. It is silent (no fan). It does not have a wall wart. It has a status light, but it's relatively unobtrusive. It comes with a nice simple hardware remote control that requires line-of-sight to the box. If you have an iOS device and the Remote app, which you can download free from the App Store, you can move the Apple TV out of sight and still control all of its features.
Summary: I will stop short of writing a multi-page analysis as other have done. I purchased this as an open-box item for seventy bucks. I couldn't pass it up. I am cheap. I would never have purchased this for regular price given the availability of competing products like the Roku and other devices that have built-in streaming capability like some TVs and BluRay players. I love the GUI and AirPlay (which is what sold me on this device). I own several Apple products and like them.
Excellent XBMC Client for networked file playback.

Summary: I started experimenting with XBMC as a movie server platform about two years ago after hitting the limits of what the Western Digital WD TV Live could do in terms of metadata aggregation. At the time there were no inexpensive clients capable of HD playback, leading me to use an HTPC in my main theater but still rely on the inexpensive WD TV boxes in other rooms around the house (bedroom, livingroom, kids' room).
Good product, but ease of setup varies by setup. Obviously.

Summary: I bought the 2nd gen Apple TV after loooong research to turn up alternative devices that support one feature: accessing and playing the contents of my iPod through my home theater system. Oridginally, I had purhased a DLO HomeDock Deluxe, which had too many flaws to mention here. Actually, I mentioned all of them in my review of that product, which you may view if you desire via the 'See all my reviews' link.
Conclusion: At the end of my day, it's amazing to be able to sit down, relax, and watch a movie on Netflix, stream some video from my iPad or iPhone, or just play around on Youtube, all on my TV screen. Apple TV is a simple little box that makes it possible. I love it. I love the airplay feature, which lets me take any video that I can see on my iPad or iPhone, and throw it up on the TV screen.
Conclusion: Pros: 1 - The AppleTV was very easy to setup. Everything works as designed. Cons: 1 - The AppleTV remote activates any MAC computer in the room. The MAC has to be turned off when watching AppleTV.
Conclusion: Video streaming and wireless connections are the future for home theater. Outstanding Netflix interface and access to iTune music and iPhoto libraries. Streaming lag times are impressively short. Could iTunes rental selections and prices be better? Yes, but that will improve. The picture quality is very good but it does not rival blu ray and there are occasional compression artifacts.
