Summary: First of all: I'm a big fan of Civilization and have been since the first version. All I have to say is that Civilization V is so slow that it ruins my game experience. For reference my computer is a Mac Book Pro i7 with 4 GB RAM. IMHO It really shouldn't be a problem to run a game like this. I have tried to lower _all_ video options to the minimum but it doesn't help much.
Summary: Yes its currently very flawed and bug ridden, but the patches are starting to arrive (even if the Mac versions are way behind the PC ones). One good thing about Steam is that you can buy the PC version and then download the Mac version for free, so save some money and get the PC version (if your broadband can handle a 4.5G download!
Summary: The working relationship between a game designer and his publisher is never a simple one. So I would not know where exactly to place the blame, Sid Meyer or 2K GAMES. But in the end, it does not matter. Because it is simply sad to see a great gaming franchise came to this. THIS IS NOT A CIVILIZATION GAME A great number of major features of this beloved series have been simply removed. A fellow gamer called this "Civilization For Dummies" and he is absolutely right.
