Shadowbane is a waste

Jonathan Schell, Amazon
1 April 2004
  • Summary: I've played Shadowbane since beta. It's a game with great potential, but its developers and programmers strive to fail in every aspect possible. Shadowbane has been on the open market for over 1 year and it still performs worse than some games that are in beta1. For example, the engine has been running on pure cpu power. The software engineers failed to utilize graphics cards or sound cards.

Playing solo is a joke

retroGRAD3, Amazon
31 January 2004
  • Summary: I thought this game was going to be fun, but it was not. It was fun in the beginning when you could actually gain level kinda fast by yourself. Soon though, you realize that gaining fast levels by yourself is an impossibility. Instead you need to get in a group and just sit around while high levels kill everything for you. Hurray what a blast. Don't buy this game.

Shadowbane - big hype, nothing delivered

Lo'Khan, Amazon
24 September 2003
  • Summary: I followed the development of Shadowbane for years. I loved the concept and waitedr an eternity it seemed for the game to come out. Unfortunately, to my dismay, the game fell very short from the hype and is on its way down the drain. Constant lag issues, unbalanced characters classes, dated graphics, no lore and no depth make this game a deffinate "do not buy".

Forced PvP

SarahFaith "Book Lover", Amazon
9 August 2003
  • Summary: I enjoyed this game at the beginning. I loved the character creation, loved playing. I loved starting different characters. It was a blast. Then I got to level 21 and had to go out into the real world where PvP is the norm. You get a hunting group together (which can take a while) and then you head out. In the midst of fighting high level mobs....some goofball PvPer (not that all of them are goofy) decides it would be great fun to take out half the group.

A huge disappointment

Eternal By Choice "Black Greek = Jumbo Shrimp", Amazon
25 June 2003
  • Summary: I started playing Shadowbane on launch day. It had its problems but I figured hey, it's new, there will be some rough spots -- give it time and it will get better. I was wrong: the game has gotten progressively worse. Every patch that's supposed to fix things breaks more than it fixes. The developers have been struggling with a constant server-side lag problem and seem no closer to fixing it than they were two months ago.

Worst Of The Gendre

Eternal By Choice "Black Greek = Jumbo Shrimp", Amazon
14 June 2003
  • Summary: For the type of hype this game has received while still in development over 3-4 years ... this is a piece of dung. The unbelievably unstable login and character select screens and the constant "sb.exe errors" during sieges make your entire gameplay a waste of time. This game should never have been released in the condition it's currently in ... and this is 3 months after its release.

A Game you can't even log into

C. Abdoo, Amazon
30 May 2003
  • Summary: As I write this I'd like to say yet again that I cannot log into this game. All other problems, and Shadowbane has a lot of them, pale in comparison to this. I have owned and played Shadowbane for over a month now, and during that month this game has been plagued by dozens of errors that cause my computer to crash, cause lag when there are even a few characters in the same vicinity, etc...

What to say.. what to say..

M. Quisenberry, Amazon
27 May 2003
  • Summary: Pointless. Clunky. Ugly. Boring. That pretty much sums up Shadowbane. The default settings of this game renders the text in an almost unreadable way. Only after minutes of fiddling did I figure out how to make character selection good enough to READ. After that, I had to wade through dozens of pointless, archaic options which weren't explained nearly well enough, then I was plopped down in the middle of a giant world with no real sense of purpose.

A great concept, but HORRIBLE customer support.

David Levine, Amazon
15 May 2003
  • Summary: The developers of the game simply don't have the knowledge to keep the game running and continue with the updates it desperatly needs. The graphics engine is way out of date, using openGL. The graphics are poor, yet the lag is horrible and it gets worse with every patch. The only compensation customers recieved for all the downtime and the problems was a free 3 days.
