Summary: Old review for the black version of this lens: A nice lens, not as sharp as the equivalent Leica wide open, may have problems focussing at infinity unless stopped down. Build quality not remotely close to Leica, but neither is the price. Unfortunate that it uses the off beat 43mm filter size. Sum up - you get what you pay for. Much cheaper than Leica as it is made in Japan by Cosina for Zeiss, not made in Germany by the Zeiss.
Summary: The Zeiss lens is way beyond best for maximum image quality and its a dream to own a Z2. Superior for both portrait and landscape. Highly recommend for the enthusiast...it's not just for the pros!
Summary: Unless you need speed and AF, you're absolutely crazy to pass on this lens. It is crazy sharp with outstanding optics. I have heard about Zeiss lenses, but using this blew my mind. And I haven't even used it on a full frame, yet.
Summary: This lens is built incredibly well...I put it on a voightlander Bessa r3a body and I am getting clarity that is astounding. With the price of this lens, I find it hard to believe that leica can claim much of anything on the system I put together for only a grand. It naturally does not produce that Leica look, but it gives the Hass 500 series type feel only in 35 mm ....which I love so much...I shoot high ISO ilford film and adore what this lens is doing.
Summary: At this price you simply won't find anything that compares. If you've been looking at the prices of used Summicrons on internet auction sites, stop wasting time looking for a deal and drop that money on a Zeiss; you won't be disappointed.
