Carl Zeiss Makro Planar T* 50mm f/2.0 ZF Lens Review

SLR Lens and Camera Reviews
14 March 2010
  • Excerpt: Carl Zeiss Makro Planar T* 50mm f/2 is one of the new generation SLR lenses that Zeiss introduced  (fairly recently) for a number of SLR camera mounts, including Nikon, Pentax and most recently Canon. The lens replaces the older, now discontinued Contax, although the 50mm macro is a redesigned formula rather then a one-to-one copy of the previous versions of Makro-Planar T* 60mm f/2.8 C and Makro-Planar T* 60mm f/2.8 S.

Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 50mm f/2 ZF (FX) - Review / Test Report

photozone.de
22 July 2009
  • Conclusion: Just like the rest of the Zeiss Z-series, the Makro-Planar 50mm f/2 is not a lens for mainstream users due to the lack of AF. However, to put things into perspective - AF is not a killer feature for macro lens anyway but then you may also argue that its very large max. aperture may be sufficient to substitute a conventional 50mm lens.

Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 50mm f/2 ZF - Review / Test Report

photozone.de
31 October 2008
  • Conclusion: Just like the rest of the Zeiss ZF gang the Makro-Planar 50mm f/2 is not a lens for the mainstream due to the lack of AF and electronic coupling. To put things into perspective AF is not a killer feature for macro lens anyway but then you may also argue that its very large max. aperture may be sufficient to substitute a conventional 50mm lens. Quality-wise the Zeiss ZF is an exceptional lens with extremely high resolution figures till diffraction takes its toll.
