Arguably one of the most beautiful lenses ever created

DugFinn, Amazon
29 January 2015
  • Summary: This lens WILL ruin all other lenses for you. Just be forewarned. After using this lens, all my other lens seem inferior and I have trouble going back to them. I have never used a more sharp and beautiful lens in my life. The clarity, contrast, and colors are superb. The diffraction limited aperture is f/4 btw, that means it's at it's utmost sharpest at f/4, although it's still better than anything else I have in all of its range.

Really fine lens

  • Excerpt: The 50mm Zeiss Macro joined a large number of L lens and while it takes excellent photos it does have some shortfalls. In low light it does not perform well on my 5D iii. Colors in low light are disappointing and not as good as my L lens. Limited use for moving subjects. Was going to purchase the Zeiss 100mm but will buy the Cannon 100mm is instead Build quality is just outstanding, photos in good light are excellent, but not much better ,if any than the L's.
  • Pros: Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Poor in Low Light

  • Excerpt: I wanted a superior lens for casual and professional shooting and after testing a few brands came away with this winner! the IQ is stunning because it asks for very little post work. I custom balance all static and event shoots and the color i get in fnish with this lens on my 5D2 demands little or no post!!!!LOVE IT, love it LOVE IT!I first purchased the Sigma 50 ( sold it after a few events) then the Canon 50L before this lens blew me away.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Tough To Attach

What you need to know about this lens

Branden, Amazon
11 May 2011
  • Summary: This is one of the best lenses available for Canon SLR cameras. I demand a high quality 50mm "normal" lens. Normal lenses spend the most time on my camera, and are useful in practically any situation. I used and ultimately sold several other 50mm lenses before arriving at this Makro-Planar option. Now I have finally found the keeper.

Best in Class 50mm Lens

David Siegfried, Amazon
20 November 2010
  • Summary: I have purchased and used many 50mm lenses, including the Canon 50mm f/1.8 II, the Sigma 50mm f/1.4, this Zeiss 50mm f/2.0 Makro, and most recently the Zeiss 50mm f/1.4. For image quality, this is far and away my favorite of them all, though it's not the easiest to use or most appropriate for all circumstances. The build quality is top-notch and it feels dense and solid in your hands, very classy and traditional.

Legendary Zeiss lens

Sean Russell, Amazon
20 November 2010
  • Summary: There's not a lot to dislike about this lens. As long as you forgive the manual focus it's a beautiful piece of kit. It's feels solid. The focus ring turns smoothly with the right amount of travel and feel. And, of course, it takes amazing photos with the legendary Zeiss micro contrast.

User Review

Yandex
8 October 2014
