Perfection

kwp1001, B&H Photo
23 August 2014
  • Excerpt: Everything I hoped it would be. Love the images. It is a great companion to my Canon 100mm L lens. They both have their strong points, and compliment each other. I works great with my 1DX, and 5DMKII. The 1Dx has the replaceable screen and is easy to focus. The focus confirmation, dose work well too.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction

Unbelievable Image

29 July 2014
  • Excerpt: I work in documentary and reality television and this lens takes the production value of my images to the next level. Canon glass is fine, but zeiss gives you a cinematic look that you won't see elsewhere at this price point.
  • Pros: Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction, Superior image quality

Gorgeous Images

PomKat, Adorama
25 June 2014
  • Excerpt: I took the same images with the Canon 24-105L at 100mm and this lens, both at f4 and could see a difference even in-camera with much more background/foreground separation and better color from the Zeiss. When I asked my non-photographer husband which images he preferred, he pointed immediately to images taken with the Zeiss (without knowing which lens had taken which photo).
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction

Amazing Lens

Anthony, B&H Photo
24 April 2014
  • Excerpt: Hands down one of my favorite lenses. The DOF is quite small, and focusing accurately can be a challenge, especially up close. But with live-view and some patience, it's quite doable. If you're not comfortable with manual lenses, you are much better off going with the (cheaper) 100/2.8L by Canon. But if you're looking for a lens with character, and are willing to take the time, this one will knock your socks off.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Nice Bokeh
  • Cons: Heavy, Slow Focus

I'm Hooked

  • Excerpt: I am not a pro photographer, but I always have a camera with me and love taking pictures. I shoot food, people and drinks (work in a restaurant), nature, and street shots. I also use it for video. I got into Zeiss lenses through using the Sony RX1r, which is also incredible, and thought I'd check out their manual focus lenses for my 5d Mark III.

Glad I waited to buy this lens

8 August 2013
  • Excerpt: After months of reading the reviews on here and hand wringing over paying double the price of the Canon 100mm L Macro I'm so happy I bought this lens. Even after just a few days use I'm seeing a clarity to my images unlike before. I can wholeheartedly recommend this lens.
  • Pros: Beautiful Color, Consistent Output, Extremely Sharp, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction

Superb Lens

Theberkshire, B&H Photo
6 March 2013
  • Excerpt: This lens really is awesome. I will have to agree with all the great reviews about this lens. This is the third Ziess lens I have bought and they all are great. The macro is superb both for stills and video. You can isolate a very small sliver with razer sharp detail while evrything else just dissolves to pure butterscotch. And the best thing is that is not at all sterile or clinical. It makes me say "WOW" everytime.
  • Pros: Durable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction

Outstanding lens, best Zeiss EOS

alencar, B&H Photo
5 March 2013
  • Excerpt: Seems to be my sharpest lens. Great for macro and landscape work, it matches the quality of the rest of the Zeiss EOS lenses - it even seems to be the best of the lot, but I haven't performed rigorous side-by-side tests. Very smooth, quiet focus pull. Warning: this lens can be much longer than it looks in the product shot, depending on how close you're focusing. VERY long focus throw.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Slow Focus

Best Macro for Canon

MBS, B&H Photo
15 November 2012
  • Excerpt: Great lens for Canon DSLR. Only issue is fine manual focus with Canon 5DMK3 since the focus screen is not fixed and currently not interchangeable. Difficult to view depth of field which is most important with macro use. Solid build quality and fantastic image results when you get it right. Much easier to hand hold and use than Canon 180mm macro.
  • Pros: Durable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Manual Focus On 5dmk3
