I prefer over Canon 100 f/2.8 IS

Teila, B&H Photo
23 March 2015
  • Excerpt: I use this lens almost exclusively for indoor/outdoor portraiture, and macro shots of people (partial body shots) & objects (for fine art, commentary & visual description of various art pieces). The lens does exactly what I purchased it for, mostly without issue. The Issues: 1.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Excellent contrast, Nice Bokeh, Pleasing Colour, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Colour Accuracy, Horrible Ca At Times, Horrible Ca Occasionally, Slow Focus

Very Happy

Denver Night Guy, B&H Photo
15 March 2015
  • Excerpt: I use the Makro-Planar equally as a macro lens and as a short telephoto. The way this lens renders subject matter is intoxifying and addictive. My other 105mm (Lester Dine) and Canon 105mm F2.8 focus closer than the Zeiss.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Focus Tricky In Low Light

Perfection

kwp1001, B&H Photo
23 August 2014
  • Excerpt: Everything I hoped it would be. Love the images. It is a great companion to my Canon 100mm L lens. They both have their strong points, and compliment each other. I works great with my 1DX, and 5DMKII. The 1Dx has the replaceable screen and is easy to focus. The focus confirmation, dose work well too.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction

Unbelievable Image

Eric V, Adorama
29 July 2014
  • Excerpt: I work in documentary and reality television and this lens takes the production value of my images to the next level. Canon glass is fine, but zeiss gives you a cinematic look that you won't see elsewhere at this price point.
  • Pros: Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction, Superior image quality

Gorgeous Images

PomKat, Adorama
25 June 2014
  • Excerpt: I took the same images with the Canon 24-105L at 100mm and this lens, both at f4 and could see a difference even in-camera with much more background/foreground separation and better color from the Zeiss.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction

Amazing Lens

Anthony, B&H Photo
24 April 2014
  • Excerpt: Hands down one of my favorite lenses. The DOF is quite small, and focusing accurately can be a challenge, especially up close. But with live-view and some patience, it's quite doable. If you're not comfortable with manual lenses, you are much better off going with the (cheaper) 100/2.8L by Canon.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Nice Bokeh
  • Cons: Heavy, Slow Focus
