Gray market lens without AF option

Jeffrey Happ, Amazon
16 March 2015
  • Summary: Beware - the lens is gray market and mine didn't come with a switch to go between Autofocus and Manual Focus. I wanted one that had both so I could switch depending on the situation. I'm returning it tomorrow. The few pics I did take with it did come out very beautiful though.

Good optics but the AF is hunting badly

Paul, Amazon
28 September 2014
  • Summary: Advantages: - Cheap - Sharp - Small and lightweight - Solid built Disadvantages: - Really bad AF - Chromatic aberration could be less I'm just dragging this lens around in my camera bag on weddings to do a few shots of rings and some other details.

Good optics, bad AF

Konstantin Cherezov, Amazon
22 April 2014
  • Summary: I knew upfront that AF on these lens will be slow. But I didn't imagine that it will be THAT bad. First of all, "hunting" is horrible, especially on low contrast subject. Most of the time it will just not lock. Second, it takes forever to AF. Literally - 3 to 6 seconds, and I'm not joking.

Nice lens for beginners

William Bryant, Amazon
8 April 2014
  • Summary: Like the title says, it is an amazing lens. Super sharp and great at focusing up closely. Take note this will be the equivalent of 160mm on a crop body such as my rebel T4i. Just two complaints.

Disappointed with Chromatic Aberration

Ehjae, B&H Photo
13 December 2013
  • Excerpt: This lens has horrible fringing. I'm not really stoked about it. If you are ok with working to remove that on pretty much every photo, this is worth the cheaper price. As for me, I will be returning it to probably buy the Nikon 105mm instead.
  • Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight
  • Cons: High chromatic aberration

Good buy for the price

Adorama

  • Excerpt: I bought this lens after another wedding photographer recommended it. This is my first macro lens and the manual that this lens came with was not very helpful. I get error messages when I use it on my full frame D800 and it doesn't always work on that camera, but it does work on my D300, The focus...

Great lens for the price

Triscut, B&H Photo
23 November 2012
  • Excerpt: For the price this lens really is a deal. Sure it doesn't have a quiet motor or USM/IS but it focuses decently (though I admit I go manual as I don't have patience for AF). I've taken some great pics with this lens and am just getting started.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Slow Focus, Tough To Attach

Excellent for price but I returned it

Adorama
23 July 2012
  • Excerpt: I bought this after reading many reviews. I think the lens is an excellent lens and that everything you read is true. I did not like the grinding noise of the lens and I found it difficult to focus. I returned it. If you want a good macro for half the cost of the Nikkor 105 than you found your lens.
