Excerpt: I bought this lens at the same time as the Canon 16-35mm L F/4 IS. I pit them against each other to see which I would keep. I consider F/2.8 be slow, so the Canon being F/4 was at a large disadvantage. I really wanted the Tokina to win and save me $$$.
Excerpt: I received a new copy but sent it back for an exchange for another one. The first one I received was very soft (as in, complete mush - unusable) in the upper 15% or so of the right frame. This doesn't seem to be an uncommon problem with this lens.
Excerpt: Being an event and concert photographer, I was looking for a fast ultra wide zoom to add to my bag. The build quality and finish of this lens are what gave it the two stars. As for performance, this lenses was horrible at any aperture larger than f/5.6.

Poor quality control issues exhibiting corner softness

Summary: Recently purchased this lens knowing that people had experienced quality control issues. Sure enough, I was one of the unlucky ones who received a bad copy. I ran some tests with my D600 and noted that the upper right corner (maybe 15% of the frame) was extremely soft. Everything else was sharp.
Summary: I am giving 5 stars rating for the lens. Build quality, images, price, are outstanding!!! Dependability 2 stars, maybe less. Auto focus stopped working after 300+ pictures, only had it for two weeks. Own 10+ Nikkor lenses, NEVER have problems.
Sharper than Canon 16-35L ii; Would not honor warranty.

Summary: I loved this lens and used it lightly for two months; I bought it new from Adorama with warranty. I kept it in a dedicated sleeve in my backpack, only taking it out when shooting. The AF mechanism quit working in the middle of a shoot after 2 months of ownership.
Excerpt: The majority of my work involves shooting at night and or in night clubs or bars. I had used a Canon 7D with a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens on this camera for a little over a year. After picking up my new Canon 5D MKIII I decided since I loved the old lens so much to give the full frame version a try.
Cons: Cant use filters, Heavy, Poor design, Poor in Low Light, Slow Focus
