Excerpt: First one arrived backfocusing SOOB(straight out of the box). I had to do some micro adjustment to get the center focus to a happy place. Did not feel comfortable with it after a while so I returned it. Second lens arrive and was soft all around the edges. Got fed up and still waiting for my refund up till now. Don't get me wrong, B&H is awesome and Tokina is definitely a competitive product. I am just saying...
Summary: It's the second copy that I get. The lens really looks sharp, but the item just arrived and showed problems in the connectors. My previous copy that I returned had problems with focus. I'm not sure anymore if I'm going to try any other version.
Summary: This is a perfectly nice lens, just don't order it here. The tracking # said it had been signed for, but I never signed for it. Instead, it was dumped on my neighbor's porch. I live in an urban area, and this is a $700 item. The package was poorly packed, with the lens rattling around in its box inside a too-large box. I returned it to Amazon, then re-ordered it from B&H. Don't go to strangers.
Excerpt: I loved this lens and used it lightly for two months; I bought it new from Adorama with warranty. I kept it in a dedicated sleeve in my backpack, only taking it out when shooting. I shot with it on five occasions. The AF mechanism quit working in the middle of a shoot after 2 months of ownership. I mailed the lens into Tokina with receipt. When I followed up a week later, the gentleman in repairs quoted me a $203 Out-of-Warranty repair due to internal sand damage.
Pros: Consistent Output
Cons: Af Mechanism Frailty, Tokina Customer Support, Warranty
Summary: My first lens review. I'm so dissapointed with this lens. The quality control with this lens is the worst I've seen. I've orderd two copies of this lens, believing I got a bad copy on the first shipment. To my surprise the second copy was even worst. The first one had bad focusing issues, and the second one had backfocusing issues and completely unusable at f/2.8. Not even microadjustment could fix it. Even stopped dows at f/8, incredible!
Excerpt: This is a very heavy lens for it's size. It's almost as heavy as my 70-200. There is no way to attach a filter to the front. Other issues included being stuck at 16-19mm (could be that I had a faulty piece but should the product not have been tested before leaving the factory?
Summary: I just received the shipment like half an hour ago, I bought a b&w filter for the other lens and this lens. After 5min putting the filter on my lens, I open the tokina lens box, it was EMPTY and FILLED UP with PAPER. So disappointed and pissed, I called amazon to get a replacement asap, need it for the trip this weekend and they said it will take several days to get a refund and I have to order another one!!!
