Dissapointed

Earlysound, B&H Photo
7 March 2012
  • Excerpt: I may be able to give this lens more than one star if it wasn't so hyped up by professional reviews. I think I got a bad copy, but honestly mine was VERY soft at anything under f5.6. and the frame was inconsistent with a couple sharp areas and many many soft ones. It also seemed to have inconsistant focus on my 50D. It would focus at different levels on the same object, every time you pushed the autofocus. Needless to say I returned mine.
  • Pros: Strong Construction
  • Cons: Soft at wider aperatures

Only works on some cameras

Robtus, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: I bought this after reading the reviews but didn't note anything about the Auto Focus NOT working on a lot of the popular Nikon models like the new D5100. I tried the manual focus but it was soft on the dozen or so images that I took in the half hour before I put it back in the box and returned it to B&H. I have to add that dealing with B&H since 1984 has always been a pleasure and I will buy here again.

Out-of-focus

Aghory, B&H Photo
7 January 2010
  • Excerpt: I wanted it to be good, I wanted so much that I took over 100 shots because I couldn't accept the truth. On my 7D, the 28-135 kit lens was way sharper. AF speed is good, AF noise is OK,build is good although I don't like the clutch. Also I found myself handling the focus ring instead of zooming, because it's reversed compared to Canon. But the biggest drawback was focus. Nowhere near sharp, both using Auto or Av settings.
  • Pros: Durable
  • Cons: Poor Image Quality

Back focusing

Claudio Braidotti, Amazon
26 February 2012
  • Summary: The lens I was sent by Amazon was back focusing at 2.8. I tried it on a Canon 1000D with center focus mode, with other lenses (all Canon) focusing fine. Sent the lens back for a refund.

Schade, mehr Unschärfe als Schärfe

Alexander Doppernas, Amazon
31 July 2014
