Summary: Very disappointed in Amazon. The lens I received is a grey market lens. I called Tamron to verify the serial and they said it was not one of their lenses and their warranty will not apply. It clearly states on this page there is a 6 year warranty. Be very careful who you buy from. Amazon obviously does not verify if these are grey market or not. This was purchased through a company call Web Offers. The lens itself is not that impressive.
Excerpt: I purchased this lens in September 2012, I needed a lens for several different events. Sports, animals, and weddings. I am very disappointed with the results. The lens is slow to focus, blurry, and images are not sharp. Just not happy with this lens at all. I did speak with a Tamron representative about the issues I was experiencing and he was no help, nor did he offer any suggestions. I have had my camera looked at to see if it was the camera.
Cons: Blurry Focus, Heavy, Macro Do Not Work, Poor in Low Light, Slow Focus, Weak Casing
Summary: The lens worked great with my Canon T1 about 2 out 3 times - other times, it stopped working with Err01 "Faulty communication with the lens". I contacted Tamron and was told it was a known issue that required aperture adjustment (nothing to do with the "communication with the lens"). The adjustment by Tamron repair service would be free of charge ONLY IF it was under warranty.
Summary: I thought I could save money and purchase the cheaper lens. Sadly all I ended up doing was wasting my time and money. I purchased this lens so I wouldn't have to use my flash in low light. Because the unit is slow to focus and performs poorly in low light I just returned the unit and purchased the more expensive lens that I should of gone with in the first place.
Summary: I had heard many great things and read several reviews about this lens, so I was excited to get it. Unfortunately, from the moment I put it on my camera, it gave me a communication error, which I've never seen before. I was unable to use it.
Would not focus on distant objects, returned the lens
Frank D. Obrad "Franko", Amazon
25 April 2013
Summary: Thank goodness that I purchased this from amazon. The lens was a piece of junk. Don't let anyone tell you that this lens focusing is even close to adequate. It is as slow as mud. The motor whirls the lens focus does not lock. It focused on near objects but at distance 75 feet out it would lock but the resulting images were not in focus. You could see in the view finder that they did not look in focus and they were not.
Excerpt: I have a Canon 70-200 f2.8L Lens, but the reviews of the Tamron lens showed it as being much sharper and so I purchased it. I have Parakeets which fly around in my house. I fitted my 5DII with the Canon lens and took shots of the birds sitting in various different places, as they fly around quite a bit. Next I fitted the Tamron lens and took the same shots. By the time the lens would focus, the bird had flown. So I got NOTHING.
Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
Summary: I unfortunately have not used this product but a few times and have found it to be not as advertised. I'm pretty sure this lens was used and have found that the auto focus is not working properly. Too bad I found this out too late or I would have returned it sooner.
Summary: I truly loved this lens for the first few months. But here is the dirty little secret--that 6 year warranty that Tamron offers and brags about so much is worthless. Totally worthless. Like many other photographers just starting out, I was seduced by the lower prices on Tamron products. I saw the positive reviews for the 70-200 mm lens and compared the price to others that are offered by Canon--so I ordered this lens on July 4, 2011.
