Summary: I had to return this beautiful zoom lens ONLY because it weighed slightly over 3 pounds!!! Way too heavy for me to haul around and change (think 5 lb. bag of sugar!) so I'm sticking with the f4.5 lens and hope that I will be happy with it. The weight of the Canon f4.5 is much more reasonable for a gal.
Summary: Its a good lens, but did not work on my Canon 60d. I tried 2 copies and had same problems. Not sharp at all. I could even get better o similar results with my kit lens (18-135 Canon). So. I returned it. Others find it very good. You have to give it a try. I've seen very good photos on many other cameras, 5D Mark III, Nikons, etc.
Summary: On checking the serial number with Tamron, the lens I received turned out to be gray market, and was immediately returned for that reason. The box it came in, had USA and US markings on it, so I'm glad I took the time to double check with Tamron. My order had been re-directed to "Another Deal Site", who according to Tamron, is not an authorized Tamron dealer. They delivered a good gray market lens promptly, but I wanted and was expecting a white-market lens.
Summary: I was very impressed with this lens when I was shooting my dogs and some ducks on the lake during the day. It was a bright sunny day and the aperture was always 5.6 or higher. The pictures were excellent and super sharp. Then I took the lens my son's high school football game where the lighting was not great and I was at 200mm zoom most of the time. Any pictures under F4 were very soft and in some cases not worth keeping.
Summary: I debated between this lens and Nikon 70-200 F/4. Decided to get this due to faster aperture of 2.8. I regret this decision. Even though Nikon is a bit slower, I don't think the IQ can be any worse. From what I heard Nikon is a very capable lens but I don't own it yet. So I did some test shots with this and Nikon 55-300 (kit lens for D5200) and amazingly Nikon beats this lens in IQ, color saturation. Not to mention Tamron overexposes terribly !
