Stiff zoom, bad for video

ISDNY, B&H Photo
6 October 2014
  • Excerpt: Purchased this lens exclusively for video, due to the VR option. The VR works fine, but.. 1. Major issue with stiff zoom ring. This is by design, not a flawed lens. You cannot zoom while shooting, the footage will shake. I have never encountered such a stiff ring. 2.

Not as sharp as my other lenses

David Brown "Dave", Amazon
1 September 2014
  • Summary: I bought two copies of this lens, and had the same issue with both. Returned the first, but ended up keeping the second. The main appeal to me was the f 2.8 aperture, although I figured out right away that there was a significant fall-off in sharpness below 3.5.

Canon 24 70 vs Canon 24 105 Test

Mark McLaughlin, Maryland USA, Amazon
6 August 2014
  • Summary: I tested the Tamron 24 70 against the Canon 24 105...each set to 70mm focal length, f5.0, 1/100 ISO 100 with AF on. Hand held, with the stabilizers on, the Canon wins in terms of sharpness.

Over priced for Sony mount version

St. Johns River kayaker, Adorama
24 September 2013
  • Excerpt: I purchased this lens and a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and ran a side by side comparison. The two lenses both performed extremely well however one is about 1/3 the cost of the other. The biggest selling point on this lens is its vibration reduction which, on the Sony mount version, is absent.
  • Pros: Sharp, Weather sealed
  • Cons: Heavy, Not Available Without Vr, Uses 82mm Filters, Way Pricey

Tamron 24-70 Nikon mount

Vladimir, Adorama
18 June 2013
  • Excerpt: I tried the lens for a week or so. I must say this lens is not bad at all. It's really not as sharp as others have specified.I returned it and got the daddy of lenses , the prime Nikon 24-70mm. Right away I saw the differences.
  • Pros: Lightweight, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Slow Focus

Not sharp enough to me

James T. Yeh "appreciative", Amazon
13 January 2013
  • Summary: I am disappointed that the lens does not deliver images with the level of sharpness I expect. The images are soft at all F numbers, not just the wide aperture end. I was certainly spoiled by the sharpness delivered by EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 L and by EF-S 10-22 mm.

Good images but not sturdy

Christian Lemasson, B&H Photo
22 December 2012
  • Excerpt: I received that lens and was delighted by its dimensions. I was very surprised when trying to disengage the sun hood, it was hard to remove. After one week shooting the problem went worse, I noticed the lens barrel turned by 2mm and broke the inside focus motor.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight
  • Cons: Lens Creep, Weak Casing

A lot of hype but marginal results

Newrider, buydig.com
16 November 2012
  • Excerpt: I bought this for shooting indoor equestrian events with my Canon 60D. Lighting is usually nominal at best. In low light the lens tends to hunt more than my Canon 85mm 1.8 and the AF isn't fast enough to keep up with moving subjects. At full aperature the results were not sharp.
  • Pros: Solid feel, Nice build
  • Cons: Heavy, Not Sharp At Full Open, Slow AF

Disappointing

Lefty Al, B&H Photo
16 July 2012
  • Excerpt: I waited a long time for this lens to be available. I wanted the vibration compensation, which actually works great. So does the auto-focus. What is very disappointing is the clarity. Even with manual focus. The images are not crisp.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight

Where's my 5 year warranty

Dermot O'Mahony, Amazon
18 June 2014
  • Summary: The product itself is fine, but the problem is the warranty. I applied for the 5 year warranty 5 months ago and have not received it after many emails to tamron. The said there was an issue with the lens serial number.
