Over priced for Sony mount version

St. Johns River kayaker, Adorama
24 September 2013
 • Excerpt: I purchased this lens and a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and ran a side by side comparison. The two lenses both performed extremely well however one is about 1/3 the cost of the other. The biggest selling point on this lens is its vibration reduction which, on the Sony mount version, is absent. Why charge the same amount for this lens with or without this expensive feature? The only advantage of this lens over the 28-75 is the additional 4 mm on the wide end.
 • Pros: Sharp, Weather sealed
 • Cons: Heavy, Not Available Without Vr, Uses 82mm Filters, Way Pricey

Tamron 24-70 Nikon mount

Vladimir, Adorama
18 June 2013
 • Excerpt: I tried the lens for a week or so. I must say this lens is not bad at all. It's really not as sharp as others have specified.

I returned it and got the daddy of lenses , the prime Nikon 24-70mm.

Right away I saw the differences. Not only in bokeh or in the depth of field but in the sharpness of the photos.

For the price is not bad at all. I would recommend this lens to a beginner. Not for a pro level photographer.
 • Pros: Lightweight, Strong Construction
 • Cons: Slow Focus

Not sharp enough to me

James T. Yeh "appreciative", Amazon
13 January 2013
 • Summary: I am disappointed that the lens does not deliver images with the level of sharpness I expect. The images are soft at all F numbers, not just the wide aperture end. I was certainly spoiled by the sharpness delivered by EF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 L and by EF-S 10-22 mm. Besides, this lens is on the heavy side for a walk-around lens. I would prefer the lighter EF 24-105 mm f/4L although its sharpness can be improved too. I will be looking for someone to buy my lens.

A lot of hype but marginal results

Newrider, buydig.com
16 November 2012
 • Summary: I bought this for shooting indoor equestrian events with my Canon 60D. Lighting is usually nominal at best. In low light the lens tends to hunt more than my Canon 85mm 1.8 and the AF isn't fast enough to keep up with moving subjects. At full aperature the results were not sharp. The lens was sharp at F8 in full sunshine but I have less expensive lenses that produce similar results. I expected better results from a $1000.00 plus lens.
 • Pros: Nice build, Solid feel
 • Cons: Heavy, Not Sharp At Full Open, Slow AF

Good

Bence Papp, Amazon
5 February 2014
 • Summary: Pro: - Nice immage stabilisation - Wide apperture Cons: -I purchased the lens for my Nikon D610. I knew that the lens is heavy, but after attached it to the camera it is almost 2 kg in total. Beer in mind that it is a very HEAVY lens! -I also notice that it wobble on my d610 giving the impressin it is a low quality lens. The zoom grip wooble as well a bit, however it funcionate completely well.

Wenn das Wörtchen WENN nicht wäre...

Damian Scholz "Supex", Amazon
9 December 2013
 • Summary: Wie heißt es so schön? Wer spart, kauft zwei mal! In meinem Fall sogar drei mal...

Blendenproblem

Selberbuch, Amazon
31 October 2013
 • Summary: Das Objektiv macht einen wertigen Eindruck.
