Beware..This is a gray market item

VV, Amazon
29 May 2014
  • Summary: I purchased this lens because of the cheap price and the trust I have in Amazon. However, I'm surprised to know that Amazon is allowing is this vendor to sell unauthorized gray market items. The serial numbers on these lenses are compromised and are not recognized by Tamron. This product has no warranty from Tamron and there is no mention about it in the product description which is a shame as we all trust Amazon.com so much.

Autofocus does not work beyond 50mm.

Adorama
4 February 2013
  • Excerpt: Autofocus will work at low focal length but Manual focus is required for 70mm to 200mm. Very disappointed. I don't have this issue with other Tamron zoom lenses I have.
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, No Autofocus200mm, Slow Focus

Buy it if soft focus sounds good to you

Little Chicken Hawk, B&H Photo
31 January 2009
  • Excerpt: Simply not a lense anyone serious about photography would want to own. My first lense other than Nikkor and possibly my last. I bought it as a knock about lense when shooting things that aren't important enough to bring out a heavier, more professional lense. After viewing the results, I'd rather put up with the additional weight of a higher quality lense - at least the results would be worth looking at later.
  • Pros: Lightweight
  • Cons: Blurry Focus, Lens Creep, Slow Focus, Weak Casing

Might be good just not for a D40X

J. Delorme, Amazon
8 January 2008
  • Summary: i Got this lens as a christmas present and it ended up being catastrophic. The lens fit onto the camera fine but when you tried to use the auto focus it just doesnt work. The lens is not compatible with any NIKON that does not have the auto focus motor built into the camera in example the D40X. So i cant really say i was happy with it.

Awful

Suzanne Miao, Amazon
2 March 2015
  • Summary: SO noisy it is unbearable; sounds like all the gears and mechanics are grinding and there's something wrong. Disliked it; returned for refund which was processed immediately without any fuss or bother. Would not recommend.
