Excellent wide angle lens for F717

T. Veilleux, Amazon
22 May 2013
  • Summary: I have used this lens with my DSC-F717 for years and it is a great complement for that camera. It is big, but I think that is why the distortion is low. You do need an external flash to overcome the partial blocking of the pop-up. It is great for a variety of different shots: Cars, indoors, architecture, boats, landscapes, etc. I do not notice any color or fuzziness issues.

Too clumsy

Paulander, Amazon
25 November 2012
  • Summary: It seemed too large for the camera and made it awkward to use. It blocked the flash completely and viewfinder partially.

A More Thorough Review.

FrontPage, Amazon
21 November 2012
  • Summary: Got this used and put it through its paces. I was shocked when I felt just how large and heavy it is. It adds almost twice as much weight on my . The lens drops below the bottom of the body as well. But I immediately saw how they built the optics, which was to minimize the typical fisheye distortion that shows when adding these lenses on cameras. I didn't see the typical edge-bending that I always saw with wide angle converters.

No need to step back to get great landscapes

J. Alberto Gratacos, Amazon
15 October 2003
  • Summary: Although it makes the already big Mavica CD500 bigger, it's well worth the added bulk by allowing you to take more of the landscape and making your rooms look bigger. The bad part is that it takes some time to screw on and change the setting to ON on "Conversion Lens". You will also need an external flash to use it in dark places because the lens blocks the flash and limits the F aperture to about 4 (less light reaches the sensors).

It's big, really big

Amazon
7 August 2003
  • Summary: No matter what you're thinking this piece of glass is BIG and heavy. But that's ok because it's a fantastic lens. You may need to buy an additional Adapter Ring for your camera (VAD-S70) to use it. The Adapter Ring is around $$$ on average. What's there to say really about this great lens? It hardly affects the stop on the camera, and althogh there is a touch of warping (fisheye) at the edges of the frame it's not enough to notice unless you're looking for it.

Big Bulky and Beautiful

JULIAN R.K. GARDNER-HOBBS, Amazon
13 December 2002
  • Summary: This is one wide lens - but once I screwed it onto my F707 with one of the supplied adaptor rings and put the camera into macro mode, it was like rediscovering the camera. The quality of the glass lens makes it a great companion for the Carl Zeiss fitted to the F707 and together they make for some very good shots with minimal distortion. The gripes? Well it's huge, making the camera cumbersome and it also blocks off the built in flash.
