Summary: Nothing but Pros for this lens. I use it on my Sony SR12. I video wildlife almost every weekend during fall and winter mostly at distances of 70-120 yards. This lens lets me video without using the digital magnification at these distances reducing graininess for better clarity on the finished DVDs. Heavy construction should prevent cross threading while attaching to camcorder.
Pros: Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Summary: The good: exceptional clarity, no degradation compared to the built in lens on my hvr-a1u. The bad: unless you are using the lens at about 75-100% zoom capacity, you will have black vignetting on your image!! This is similar to the effect seen on tv when they are trying to suggest you are looking through a telescope. What's worse is the vignetting effect did NOT show on the LCD screen during shooting and it ruined a shoot for a high school football game.
Summary: I first bought a 2x lens that was "for a Sony camera" on line for a "bad guy". What a mistake. The trick is to buy a lens that is a Sony. Don't be fooled. The lens that I bought that was "for a Sony camer" only meant that it would fit. I may as well bought a lens cap as it was just about as clear as if you would have had the lens cap still on. I was releaved when my VCL-HG1737 came. The quality of my video improved ten fold for those long range shots.
Summary: This lens is excellent for birding and mountain views. I have found this lens to be equivalent to my 12x45 Zeiss binoculars in clarity and image quality. It is heavy and it takes time to thread onto the HDR-SR11. It is not a quick change lens but, then you are buying quality.
Summary: Great product. works very welll indoors and outdoors. I used it when videoing the state swimming championships. I was 80 to 90 meters away from the start blocks and was able to pick up excellent details on the swimmers. Only wish is that it could pick up even further distances.
Summary: I use this adapter when I am filming soccer matches so I can get good close-ups at either end of the pitch, and find it allows me to get right in to the action even when I'm filming from behind the opposite goal line. I really like the clarity of the images I get with it, but when editing I see some vignetting when zoomed out for closer action. This is no problem to work with, and is mentioned in the adapter's manual, but that is why it dropped a star.
Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Summary: Purchased the 1.7x telephoto lens for a new SONY HD camcorder. Exellent optical quality - gives the camera tremendous zoom range without any image degradation. The lens does introduce a fair amount of vignetting when you zoom back out at the low end of the optical zoom range, so you really can't leave the lens on the camera and expect to use it for all shooting conditions. But that's not what you buy it for. Note: I also have the extended wide angle lens.
