Summary: I liked the lens, very good and if you don't have a 50mm lens this one would certainly be a great option. For me I prefer a 50 mm 1.4 lens over this one, however, the cost is double so factor in cost and need and with this one you certainly have a little more distance from your subject over a 50mm.
Summary: Yes, this lens DID meet my expectations. I purchased it as a means of introduction to photographic portraiture, of which I had essentially no knowledge. And I was hunting for an economical means of obtaining needed practical experience.
Summary: The Sony 85mm f/2,8 SAM lens is nicely made, with commendable optics, as is generally the norm for SAM lenses. The price is reasonable. Handling is simple and direct. AF is decent and accurate. This lens is also compatible with the AF-D feature provided by the A99 camera body.
Summary: Really wanted to get an older Minolta 85mm but the price difference did not justify it. Gives great head shots for portraits. Excellent color reproduction. Only complaint is that it is all plastic body.
Excerpt: I'm using this with the Sony LAEA4 adapter on an A7. This lens seemed a very good low-cost choice for the portrait focal length. The lens is compact and very lightweight due to the extensive use of plastic (even the mount is plastic).
