Excerpt: At first I was skeptical on purchasing this lens because of the mixed reviews! But needless to say I am so glad I bought this lens. It does everything I need it to do and the bokeh is great! I mainly use it to film my YouTube videos and I love how it blurs out the background of my videos! It is also great with taking pictures. It takes a little getting use to because it is a prime lens, so you cannot zoom. But you get use to it!
Excerpt: I use it on my SLT-A65. It is quite compact and very fast to focus as well. Although I have zooms that work in the same range they are not f1.8 and they are not light or bright as this one. This lens has very few shortcomings that does affect it's functionality. They include, (1) it is plastic light, (2) The focusing ring is not well demarcated, and (3) Canon and Nikon make similar 50mm (eg: Nikon 50/1.8D - $ on BH) that is a bit heavier but works as well as this lens or...
Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh
Excerpt: I bought this lens so I could get more depth-of-field over the 18-50mm lens that came with the camera, which was also only F5.6. It takes good low-light pics and does improve depth of field. Next purchase should be a 300mm telephoto.
Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight
Excerpt: I purchased this as my 2nd lens and it is wonderful! The picture quality is much more vivid and the f/1.8 allows my images to Pop! Usage is mainly for portraits and outdoor shots. It's a really good addition to your arsenal especially for the price. I gave it 4 stars only because of the plastic build. But other than that, this is a must have!
Excerpt: Serious amatuer photographers on a budget will love this lens. Great photos are captured with its f/1.8 aperature. Great for cropped-sensor cameras, it takes stunning portraits, and its fixed focal length is a winner for those days when you need to carry light for your street photography outings. It boasts a super smooth (and quiet) autofocus. While it doesn't affect the performance of this lens whatsoever, it doesn't come with a lens hood.
Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Fixed Focal Length, Great portraits, Lightweight, Nice Bokeh, Quiet Smooth Autofocus
Excerpt: Good lens for the price and produces good images. I use it mainly for doing portraits of my family. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the fact that the focus ring is not easy to find or use.
Summary: love it love the price love almost everything if it had a little more build quality ..such as metal mounting plate to the camera body it wouldn't seem so gimicky that said its a great lens at a great price and im very happy with it the focus motor seems a little noisey but most times i have it in manual hope this helps you make your mind up
Summary: I was looking for a normal prime for my new Alpha 65 and liked the specs on this lens. It is quite fast (f/1.8) and very sharp. I generally shoot quite a bit in aperture-preferred mode and this lens works really well. If you're looking for a good prime lens for your kit...and don't want to break the bank...this is an excellent choice. Primes rule!
