Summary: This lense just feels cheap. It is great if you need a telephoto on a budget, but other than that, if I had to do it again, I would have waited. I find myself hardly ever using this lense due to the 75mm starting point. I have since purchased the 18-250mm sony lens (SAL18250) and while higher priced, it is a much better lense, in quality and versatility.
Summary: I took some pix of waterfowl at a nearby lake. I got a good picture of a blue heron, but when I tried to blow it up, it was very grainy and fuzzy. Same thing with a finch at closer range. The overall detail was good but the picture was not sharp.
Summary: Item looks ok although clearly not brand new as stated on the advert. Lens hood cracked so will probably give at some point when tightened. Seller (gym-man-sam) would not provide cost of new hood so rather than stand the cost of return postage with nothing to show for it decided to keep what was bought and make the most of it.
Summary: After having recently bought an A200 and found using the kit lens on it's own extremely limiting, I stumped up the ill-afforded cash for this lens. At first glance images look fine, but when viewed at 100% the disappointment kicks in. Virtually every contrasting edge has a vivid, deep purple fringe, or if your lucky a light green one. The only way I've found to avoid this is to not use the far end of the focal range or take pictures with strong contrasting background.
