I love this lens!

Joel K. "Joel K", Amazon

  • Summary: I purchased this lens about 8 weeks ago and have seldom taken it off my Sony A77. Great combo. Sharp all the way through. Beautiful bokeh. Great reach for birding. I'm very pleased!

Slowest Lens I own

Raymond Monk, Amazon
9 March 2014
  • Summary: Granted F/4 is not a super fast lens, but this thing spends more time searching than it gives me for shooting. Maybe it is something with this one lens, but for the price I am seriously disappointed

telephoto 70/400

Thoma, Sony

  • Summary: The picture says it all. Just started taking pictures 2 years ago. This lens was dropped down a concrete stairs in Oregon. Fell off of a tripod, safety lock not secured. Still works fine. I like the lens so much, for the price I bought a new backup lens. Now I have two.

Excellent at range and works well as a macro

RTdriver, Amazon
18 July 2013
  • Summary: There is no comparison between the "G" series lenses and those you would buy over the counter at the local big box store. Then again the price difference between this lense and a kit lense is substantially different as well. Lots of comments have been made about this lense and the weight. Believe those comments. The lense is heavy and isn't really a good 'walking around' lense.

this lens is fast and takes great pics

  • Summary: i got this lens for an african safari trip. it's way big and heavy for carrying in your hands for hours at a time. but those are the only downsides. as i started taking pics of wild animals, i was happy that i bought this lens. focus is very fast and images are sharp despite the jeep was constantly in motion so even a monopod or tripod would not have helped. i got some gallery shots from the trip so i'm happy with it.

Great Full LIght lens.

color me satisfied, Amazon
20 April 2013
  • Summary: I have used this for capturing pictures of People and landscape. It does the job well. Cant help to think that Sony Glass would be a little better. It just starts me thinking that I want a fixed length prime with more light gathering capabilities, that of course would be priced at the same point as a used car. I can get more utility out of a used car than a lens.

Great reach on an A77

Bud R, Amazon
14 March 2013
  • Summary: This lens on my new A77 gives me the reach (600mm) and sharpness I need for wildlife photos, especially birds in flight. It beats the pants off the Canon 100-400L and 400 f/5.6L.

Awesome lens -- super SHARP even wide open at 400mm

AlanS, Amazon
21 February 2013
  • Summary: No need to stop this lens down to gain sharpness, it maintains tack-sharp image at the extremes. I've owned this lens for over 3 years; purchased it February 2010 from Amazon for $1600 (yes, Sony has upped the price a couple of times since). This lens replaced my old Minolta 100-400, which was a "good" lens, but was somewhat disappointing at 400mm unless stopped down. This lens will not disappoint!! Is sharp at all focal lengths.
