As a pro, this lens in my kit has broadened my scope of what I can produce.

Summary: Now I put five stars for size and weight, but it is a heavy unit, but it does more than I expected. I forgot quickly about the weight and reveled in the sharpness and ease of use. top lens for those that want to be a hot shooter for a decent price.

Summary: The Sony SAL70400G 70-400mm f/4-5.6 SSM lens is a great wildlife lens for those using the Sony line of A mount DSLR cameras. It gives very sharp images and focuses quickly and quietly. If your subject moves slightly before you can snap the picture, you can adjust the focus without switching over to manual mode like a lot of lenses.

Summary: I purchased this lens September 18, 2012 so I think enough time has passed to give a review. I have used this lens more than any other lens and it has been a pretty good lens. I sent it in to be gone over before the warranty expired and because my photos were coming out extremely blurry. I got the lens back and all was right with the world again. This is a heavy lens (4 pounds) and it doesn't always focus as fast as I would like.
Summary: Granted F/4 is not a super fast lens, but this thing spends more time searching than it gives me for shooting. Maybe it is something with this one lens, but for the price I am seriously disappointed
Summary: The picture says it all. Just started taking pictures 2 years ago. This lens was dropped down a concrete stairs in Oregon. Fell off of a tripod, safety lock not secured. Still works fine. I like the lens so much, for the price I bought a new backup lens. Now I have two.
Summary: There is no comparison between the "G" series lenses and those you would buy over the counter at the local big box store. Then again the price difference between this lense and a kit lense is substantially different as well. Lots of comments have been made about this lense and the weight. Believe those comments. The lense is heavy and isn't really a good 'walking around' lense.
Summary: i got this lens for an african safari trip. it's way big and heavy for carrying in your hands for hours at a time. but those are the only downsides. as i started taking pics of wild animals, i was happy that i bought this lens. focus is very fast and images are sharp despite the jeep was constantly in motion so even a monopod or tripod would not have helped. i got some gallery shots from the trip so i'm happy with it.
