great choice for the still photographer.

Terence M., Amazon

  • Summary: I am using this with a amount to emount adaptor, so am relying on manual focus more than usual for me. The manual focus is excellent (not too loose) and the lens quality also excellent. Look for a refurb (I did). And note - there is a new version, marked with II.

  • Excerpt: I love nature photography and this lens is a wonderful addition to my kit. The SSM technology is really great. I have the Sony a77ii with APS-C sensor, so I have a little longer reach when I am fully zoomed in to my subject.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Poor in Low Light

  • Excerpt: Had to return due to a peace being loose. But I did get to take a couple pictures with it & they looked great. A little soft at full zoom & was a bit heaver them my Tamron 18-270. But over all could be a bit better for the price.
  • Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Strong Construction

Great lens... before it failed.

  • Excerpt: For the first two years of use, this was a great lens. Then, on vacation, or simply decided to stop autofocusing past about 20 feet. Other lenses work fine on my body do I know it's the lens. This is totally unacceptable for a lens with no scratches or damage.

  • Excerpt: First of all this a very well made lens. It is part of Sony's "G" series and worth the extra price. Quality feel, quick focusing. It is very sharp and I've gotten some great pictures with it. But it is also surprisingly light weight.
  • Pros: Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight

Sharpness is amazing!

  • Excerpt: I use this lens on a sony nex 6 and it has given me the ability to really zoom into nature. Putting this lens on my camera gives me about a 450 zoom capacity. The pictures are sharp even when I am holding the camera and the weight is still incredibly light.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight
  • Cons: Poor in Low Light

  • Excerpt: At first I hesitated buying this lens at it cost more than the Tamron. After reading reviews online that mentioned that it was worth the money I agree. Images are sharp, focus is fast.
