Summary: Great lens. Allows me to open up so I'm able to select the focus point I want and have other parts of image our of focus. I also am able to shoot available light at family gatherings without the distraction of flash.
Summary: I bought this lens for my Sony A65. I own the SAL 35 and 85mm lenses which are cheap lenses and I wanted one lens that was of higher quality. Given the 1.5 crop factor I figured I would push a little more money into this as my portrait lens. After getting it and manually focusing on points at 1.4 I was impressed with the files, sharp with good bokeh and nothing crazy at the corners.
Sony 50mm f/1.4 ZA SSM Carl Zeiss Planar T* SAL50F14Z review by timtomgo

Summary: you can't be wrong with this purchase. the autofocus is lightning fast on a99 and perfectly accurate 99.9% of the time. the homogeneity is exemplary in every regard, at every aperture. bokeh is "only" good but smoother than any other sony compatible 50mm options. expected for this kind of lens anyway. contrast is absolute even wide open with light source in the frame, the T* coating works wonderfully.
Pros: basically... everything
Cons: light falloff, distortion a bit strong (over 2% field curvature but quite simple)
