  • Summary: wrong lens sent by mistake. There is nothing wrong with the lens per se, as all Sony products are excellent. It was not the one I ordered.

Great lens but with limitations

Amazon
22 November 2012
  • Summary: Although I did not buy this lens from Amazon, I did rely on Amazon reviews of this lens to make my decision. So as a way of saying thank you to Amazon, I am sharing my own review of this lens.

Dark, Dark, Dark but great quality

AP, B&H Photo
27 September 2011
  • Excerpt: Very good quality but for a 2.8 lens, it's dark. I had 3 lights on a macro object and open at 2.8 but it just seem as if it was not getting any light.Compared to the 50mm and 100mm, this lens is just plain dark. Built quality is cheap as it is [*].
  • Pros: Lightweight
  • Cons: Dark images, Poor in Low Light, Weak Casing

Dual Purpose walkaround lens!

Ruizinho, Adorama
11 June 2011
  • Excerpt: Given its price I can't complain the DT 30mm 2.8 isn't one bit disappointing. its super light and can be put in your side pocket. I dont mind the plastic build quality as the IQ, Sharpness and quick focus is very good. Plus the focal length on APS-C turns 45mm which is great for an everyday lens.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight
  • Cons: Poor in Low Light, Slow Focus, Weak Casing

High quality with some reservations

pulseHEAD, Sony
17 June 2010
  • Summary: For macros, this lens provides great image quality. You do a lot of shots handheld, due to the very short 30mm length. However, this lens will mostly need to be used for stationary object macro shots, as the close distance will scare almost any living thing away.
  • Pros: Very good image quality for macros and close shots
  • Cons: Inaccurate autofocus beyond 6 feet
