  • Summary: wrong lens sent by mistake. There is nothing wrong with the lens per se, as all Sony products are excellent. It was not the one I ordered.

Great lens but with limitations

Syiem, Amazon
22 November 2012
  • Summary: Although I did not buy this lens from Amazon, I did rely on Amazon reviews of this lens to make my decision. So as a way of saying thank you to Amazon, I am sharing my own review of this lens. Please be aware that this review is oriented mostly towards amateurs like myself because this is essentially an amateur lens. Here is what I liked about this lens: 1. Price: this lens is really cheap for a true macro lens that provides 1:1 magnification.

Dual Purpose walkaround lens!

Ruizinho, Adorama
11 June 2011
  • Excerpt: Given its price I can't complain the DT 30mm 2.8 isn't one bit disappointing. its super light and can be put in your side pocket. I dont mind the plastic build quality as the IQ, Sharpness and quick focus is very good. Plus the focal length on APS-C turns 45mm which is great for an everyday lens. Bokeh may not be as smooth n creamy as the 50mm 1.8 but is descent. It doubles up as a macro too. I have captured some nice photos of flowers and even car details.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight
  • Cons: Poor in Low Light, Slow Focus, Weak Casing

High quality with some reservations

pulseHEAD, ABT Electronics

  • Summary: For macros, this lens provides great image quality. You do a lot of shots handheld, due to the very short 30mm length. However, this lens will mostly need to be used for stationary object macro shots, as the close distance will scare almost any living thing away. The SAM seems to work OK, but does not seem to be much faster than the original screw drive mechanism. Surely it will provide advantages with the new NEX line of cameras.

  • Summary: What this review does not mention, is how much fun you can have with this lens!!!!!!! It's very small size and weight and very close focusing will have you in crevices tight spots and experimenting with perspectives you would find nearly impossible with any normal macro!!!! Add to this the pin sharp optics makes this an affordable toy.... I personally find that the ridiculously close focusing of 2 cms a hoot !!!!!!

SONY Makro für Spiegelrfelxkameras von Sony

Hornberg, Amazon
11 June 2013
  • Summary: Ein sehr leichtes Makro-Objektiv mit Kunststoffbajonett.
