Summary: I bought this lens for my recently purchased Sony Alpha SLT-A99V. What a perfect "walk around" lens for a full-frame camera! The lens is superb from 28mm to 75mm. I use a Carl Zeiss 16-80mm lens on my SLT-A77 so I thought I might be a little disappointed with anything less.
Summary: I got this lens as a promotion for the purchase of a Sony A99. I am new to FF photography and didn't know what I was really getting, although for the price it should be a decent lens. Well as it turns out it is a very decent lens.
Summary: A very quiet, well designed lens. It has become my go to lens for most applications. Great in low light and small spaces. The only drawback is the price...there are other lenses with similar features for much less. But if you are looking for a rugged, well made lens, this is the one!
Summary: A very good travel lens on FF, excellent sharpness at center at all apertures, but somehow soft on edges, very soft at wide apertures, a bit less when stopped down. Color rendition is excellent, has a very good flare control, but vignetting is apparent (though fixable with processing).
Pros: Nice range for FF, very sharp at center, accurate focus, good flare control
Cons: Very soft at edges, Price, no sealing, slight vignet
Excerpt: I've used this lens at the Aquarium in New Orleans in very low lighting conditions with no flash, Sony A99, ISO of 1600 and handheld. The photos came out very sharp with no noticeable noise.I am very pleased with the results I get with this lens.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction, Very sharp images
