Lens Test: Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* ZA SSM AF

Pop Photo
17 January 2010
  • Excerpt: The 24-70mm f/2.8 full-frame zoom is becoming the general-purpose standard for news, wedding, portrait, landscape, and event pros. (Everyone, in other words, except sports and close-up photographers.) Canon, Nikon, and Sigma all offer superb examples. Sony's outstanding new entry ($1,750, street) isn't based on any earlier Sony, Zeiss, or Konica Minolta designs, but -- as the blue logo indicates -- was codeveloped with Zeiss, and it paves the way for Sony's...

Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar 24-70 mm f/2.8 T* SSM

LensTip.com
14 September 2010
  • Conclusion: Perhaps a comparison between the tested lens and the Canon EF 24-70 mm f/2.8L USM, a lens renowned among the professionals which fared well in our tests, will be a good summary of the Zeiss 24-70 mm f/2.8. It turns out the Zeiss is practically not worse than the Canon and in several categories it performs significantly better. When Canon launched its lens in 2002 it had no competition to speak of.
  • Cons: image resolution by f/2.8 and at 70 mm focal length could have been better.

Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA SSM (Sony SAL-2470Z) - Review / Lab Test Report

photozone.de
25 January 2010
  • Conclusion: The Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA SSM produced outstanding performance figures in our APS-C test but it's not quite as good when used within its native full format scope. It is, of course, still able of delivering an outstanding center resolution but the corner quality disappoints at 24mm when using large to medium aperture settings.

Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA SSM (Sony SAL-2470Z) - APS-C Review / Test Report

photozone.de
31 October 2008
  • Conclusion: The Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA SSM will surely find many fans. In terms of resolution is may well be the hottest cake around in this class and neither distortions nor vignetting are problems to worry about (all within the APS-C scope). Lateral CAs may be visible at times in wide-angle images but it's a non-issue in the middle to upper zoom range.

Sony Zeiss 24-70

camerastuffreview.com
6 April 2010
  • Summary: In terms of construction and optical qualities, such as resolution, chromatic aberration, and vignetting, this lens certainly makes worth its high price. This lens is among the finest lenses for cameras with an APS-C sensor. Distortion, especially at the ends of the zoom range, is not (yet?) corrected by the camera.
  • Pros: Optical top class quality (resolution, chromatic aberration and vignetting), Solid as a rock
  • Cons: Heavy: almost a kilo, Visible distortion at 24 mm, High purchase price

Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T*

fotopolis.pl
22 September 2009
  • Summary: Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T to dobry, jasny obiektyw.
