Summary: I bought this to get the increased focal length over the SAL18-55 that came with my A65.It is also slightly better for Portraits. I have shot a wide variety of different photos with it.The corner to corner sharpness is not as good as my 28-135 Minolta but it's much lighter to carry around. If you are on a budget it's a great walk around lens and it's better than some of the older Minolta in the same range and is better with the flash. If you have the extra bucks go for the...
Summary: Needed a handy lens in addition to my 18-200 mm. Lens is small and cheap secondhand. Good for my purpose using several camera bodies. No need to compare with other lenses as I already got several Sony lenses and are happy with them
Nice quality images but not built to last like the old Minolta lenses were.

Summary: For a general purpose light duty lens it delivers great pictures. This is not your workhorse lens built to withstand weather and the elements. It is constructed of plastic and will not hold up to rugged use, but for a small, light carry around lens for shooting the kids etc. it works great.
Summary: I bought this lens for my wife, she does "street " photography. She has a Sony a230 and the 18-55 lens that came with the camera dosen't give her the range of zoom she needs. The 18-55 has much better reviews that this 18-70 but this lens is a winner in her book and she is delighted with what it does for her.
