Summary: I bought this lens for my A77 and it is a good lens. My main usage for it is in the wide angle range since I already have prime lenses at 35 and 85mm. However, once you put this on your camera, it is hard to take it off since it covers most of the range I desire. Only when you need wider aperture that you do need to change lens. Build quality is awesome and it looks very professional. IQ is consistent with the other reviews. Overall, it is the best lens for general use.
Summary: I got this for its speed and its reputation as being about the sharpest lens out there in this zoom range. It has not disappointed so far. I use this lens for landscapes and other outdoor scenes, generally on SLIK's 700 tripod, but I also find the speed makes it handy for the indoor available light work I occasionally do for our local newspaper.
Summary: You definitely get what you pay for. There is a noticeable difference in image quality from the kit lens throughout the range. Plus now you can take some indoor and night photos without a flash. Constant F/2.8 gives you so much flexibility. Unlike many lenses this is very sharp at F/2.8 and hits maximum sharpness in the center just 1 or 2 clicks up. But you won't notice it unless you crop an awful lot.
Excerpt: This lens shows off the reason I bought a DSLR. The sharpness and brighness of the images are amazing. The bokeh is superb, and I find myself manually setting the aperture to f2.8, and I have not seen any drop in sharpness. This is a sturdy lens with a good amount of heft, so i'm not so worried about light knocks when using my sling strap. This lens stays on my camera 90% of the time.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh
Summary: This is my go to lens for indoors or video. Very nice results. Fast and quiet. A bit heavy, but worth it when you need a fast, quiet lens with some zoom. I'm using this on an alpha 65 (24MP APS-C SLT model).
Summary: Best all purpose lens you can get for any sony Apsc camera. I had the tamron version and this lens is slightly better in image quality and much stronger in build quality. I don't have much else to say other than it is a excellent lens and that is is also not that far off from the quality of my zeiss 24-70 and can produce excellent pictures in the right hands.
This is a great walking around lens. It is well built, versatile

Summary: I bought this lens just before my wife and I left for a Caribbean Cruise. I took this lens along and a couple of other excellent lens I have on the cruise in early 2013. This lens did a beautiful job and I never used any other lens out of my bag including my 75 to 300 zoom G lens I have, I had some stunning shots I was very proud of. There were a few times I wished this lens zoom could reach further than the 50 mm maximum such as 75 mm.
Excerpt: great lens with pretty acurate autofocus for video.
I would say the focal length range is pretty good on an crop sensor. I also have a 28-70 and i do occasionlly find myself wanting more in the frame.
I believe this only works with aps-c cameras so you couldn't use the full frame on a full frame camera.

I bought this mainly for video use and because of its completely quiet (it is quiet) autofocus which is pretty fast and accurate.
Pros: Fast / accurate auto-focus, Rugged, Strong Construction
