Excerpt: I use the SAL1635z on my Sony a7. I already owned a SAL2470z and wanted the wider shooting available with the 16-35. Both lenses are truly amazing for zoom lenses. There is virtually no noticeable distortion at with the 16-35 when at the full 16mm end. Superior low light and manageable noise when paired with the a7. Fast auto focus and quite enough motors for video.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
Excerpt: If you've been struggling to shoot video with your Sony DSLR, with knock off after markets or DT lenses, this is a dream come true. Granted its a financial dip, but you get what you pay for. Best lens in my bag and almost never comes off the camera these day.
Pros: Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
Summary: What can I say. I love Zeiss lenses. The is the brother of the 24-70mm. They are identical in size and weight. The 16-35mm is sharp and handles distortion very well. There is minimal flaring even in difficult lighting. I shot with the Minolta 17-35mm G lens for awhile but upgraded to the 16-35mm. You simply can't go wrong with this lens.
Pros: Sharp, fast focus, rugged build, smooth operation
Excerpt: Picked up this and the 2470z around the same time and have put both through there paces. This lens is incomparable. the 16mm wide angle is more then adequate for any object or landscape shot you can think of. The quality and build is spot on with a fantastic elimination of chromatic aberration on even the most prone edges.
