Summary: The main perk of this lens is the added portability. I use this lens on an NEX-5R and can easily carry it around over my shoulder or in a jacket pocket. IQ is good for a kit/zoom lens and the power zoom controls are handy when shooting video as well.
Excerpt: I use this lens on an NEX C3. Barrel distortion and vignetting are gone by around 22mm focal length. I get that by touching the zoom control twice quickly. If you want to use 16mm, you can eliminate the distortion in post with an editing program such as Photoshop. I use this rig as an alternative to a bulky DSLR for casual pictures. It's reasonably sharp, especially in the center. Way out in the corners, there is some softening, but I accept the tradeoff.
Summary: This works as a good all around lens if you want to keep your camera "small" and always available. Not the best lens, but the average "weekend photographer" should be very pleased. Price is great.
Excerpt: Shoot at the widest angle in raw, horizon showed up impossibly curved I was able to fix it by using Dxo ViewPoint 2. Soft was able to do the good job but this fact won't make me feel better about this very weak product Wide angle lenses are notoriously prone to distortion that is why only few example can be truly called wide angle lens Nikon and Canon come to mind but not this Sony <br />Add the fact of no less than distortion a vignetting problem and at the end I rely...

Summary: Took this to Hong Kong on my NEX 5N and it performed very well. Along with a Canon SX260, the two fit in a Case Logic 304 and had me prepared for low-light indoor, outdoor zoom, and everything in between. I also had the Sony 55-210 (another great buy for the price - has very few weak spots throughout its range), but put it to little use, because of this 16-50 and the little SX260 working so well together.
Excellent, not for cheaper or plastic is bad to photographers

Summary: First: is fragile, so you must to use carefully. After this, and his plastic concept, the lens is fantastic, very light and smallest, fast focus, exceptional 16mm angle with just a very little distortion which is intrascendent for normal pictures, with very nice colours and contrast. Cheaper, what more..? If some day it will broke is easy buy another new.
Summary: The pancake is a portable casual option for the Sony NEX line. It takes sharp imagines and has performed well with whatever I throw it at. The wide angle distortion makes taking close-up pictures of people kind of weird if you don't know what you're doing, but for all else it's a good choice for auto features and compactness.
