Sony 70-400mm zoom

HOGPILOT, B&H Photo
  • Excerpt: Seems to be all that I expected. Going to take it on next big trip for in the field experience. Works with my Nex6 Sony with the adaptor just fine. Pictures appear crisp and sharp and little to disappoint. Not a photo pro so don't have a lot of technical stuff to say about it.
  • Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Rugged, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Heavy

very good lens

  • Excerpt: I use this lens for birds. You need a very steady hand or a good tripod. At long lengths you have to be extremely steady. It is heavy, but it produces great shots.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Heavy

  • Summary: Fantastic. Works great. I'm worried about longevity since it's not weather sealed, but the image quality is phenomenal,

Not the great lens I thought it would be.

  • Summary: It's hard to say that I believe a lens is not up to all the high praise it receives when so many people seem so happy with it, but that's my situation. I have spent a week shooting birds as well as just ordinary snaps around the garden with my new Sony 70-400 G2 on my trusty A77ii.

Not convinced yet

  • Excerpt: After reading the accolades about this lens I question myself and what I'm experiencing, but I have to say that, provisionally, the sharpness of this lens at full magnification is much inferior to the Sony 70=300G SSM.
  • Pros: Strong Construction
  • Cons: Blurry Focus

Sharpness and very fast autofocus

Jose Yepez, Amazon
10 July 2015
  • Summary: I am not a professional photographer, but I have shot thousands of pictures especially of birds. Autofocus speed and sharpness are spectacular. With the A58 is very comfortable. I am surprised and very satisfied. My only problem now is that when the photos are bad, I can't blame the lens...

A Pleasant Surprise

BrianK, B&H Photo
31 March 2015
  • Excerpt: This lens has surprised me. A prior reviewer said it exceeded expectations. The same has been true for me on a Sony a77MII. I am getting nice, bright, sharp actions shots (sports primarily) even at full telephoto.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Cons: Heavy

Exceeded my expectations

RAD, B&H Photo
4 March 2015
  • Excerpt: Used correctly, thi lens in nothing short of outstanding. I had the previous version and when using it with my A99, I was not impressed. The G2 is really different. The AF is much faster and more accurate. The CA is well controlled, and contrast/sharpness is more than i hoped for.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Strong Construction
