Excerpt: After reading the accolades about this lens I question myself and what I'm experiencing, but I have to say that, provisionally, the sharpness of this lens at full magnification is much inferior to the Sony 70=300G SSM.
Summary: I am not a professional photographer, but I have shot thousands of pictures especially of birds. Autofocus speed and sharpness are spectacular. With the A58 is very comfortable. I am surprised and very satisfied. My only problem now is that when the photos are bad, I can't blame the lens...
Excerpt: This lens has surprised me. A prior reviewer said it exceeded expectations. The same has been true for me on a Sony a77MII. I am getting nice, bright, sharp actions shots (sports primarily) even at full telephoto.
Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus
Excerpt: Used correctly, thi lens in nothing short of outstanding. I had the previous version and when using it with my A99, I was not impressed. The G2 is really different. The AF is much faster and more accurate. The CA is well controlled, and contrast/sharpness is more than i hoped for.
Pros: Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Strong Construction
Excerpt: I bought this lens as an upgrade to my sal70300g lens to give me a little more length for wildlife photography. I am very pleased with this lens. It is sharper at 400mm than the 70300g is at 300mm and less and I think the 70300g is an excellent lens. The color and contrast is great.
Excerpt: Bought this lens to replace an 80-200 f2.8 and 300mm f2.8 from my film days and to complement my Sony SAL 16-50 so that with these two lenses I can travel much lighter than previously. I wanted the extra reach of the 400mm end and the tripod collar so did not opt for the lighter 70-300.
Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Strong Construction
