Hard to find but worthy

  • Summary: This is and old version of the Sigma Macro 105mm. I looked for it in several second hand stores and finally found the only one here. It works perfectly and the shipment was quick and secure. Thats important when you are purchasing expensive and delicate camera equipment.

Sigma 105mm Wonder

Stephen R. Payne, Amazon
3 October 2013
  • Summary: The only reason that I have given this lens a four star rating is due to the fact that this is the older model of this lens and I purchased it used from a seller on Amazon.com. Had some trepidations about buying something of this nature used and unseen.

  • Summary: I purchased this lens used from a seller on Amazon.com. This being my very first used lens purchase I can tell you that I was filled with doubts about it's quality. After it's receipt all doubts were washed away.

If you see one, get it!

  • Summary: This lens is great for 1:1 macro, it's true macro pretty much. You'll most likely have to get a tripod for real close up shots, but wow! It's sharp at around f4 and f5.6. I have also been using this a portrait lens and the photos are coming out great as well!

  • Conclusion: Bought this on a lark about two years ago from KEH, had some extra cash and thought it would be fun to try macro photography. I had shot with the Canon 100mm 2.8 USM and the MP-E 65mm ... but I didn't have that kind of extra cash.
  • Pros: Extremely sharp even when wide open, good build quality, great bokeh, color, contrast, etc.
  • Cons: Autofocus is crap but who uses autofocus on a macro lens?

  • Summary: Ken Rockwell said in his review of the D7000 that this lens didn't fit. Lies. Got it two days ago and have been dropping my jaw ever since. I'll put some pictures up that I took today of my wife's and my eyes. Go check them out. FYI, tripod is almost necessary in every situation.

  • Conclusion: What a nice surprise I had with this lens. I used to buy only Canon and mostly Canon L lenses, thinking that they were better than the Sigma lenses. I picked up a used copy of the Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro for a very good price, after reading the reviews here.
  • Pros: Very very sharp for portraits. Nice macro IQ. Very value
  • Cons: None as I used manual focus for macro.
