A good lens made better. The improvement in contrast and extra control of flare and ghosting provided by the DG coating are, in themselves, worth the upgrade. Improvements have also been made to the hood along with a reduction, albeit slight, in the AF noise. Optical quality cannot really be faulted and with the edges performing as well as the centre on a cropped camera you can expect good edge performance on a full frame body too. Read more

The Sigma Macro 105mm F2.8 EX DG is an excellent telephoto macro lens. It delivers images at normal focusing ranges that are crisp and clear and of high image quality. It also creates realistic images at life-size magnification. This lens is a high performance lens, optimized for digital SLR's but suitable for 35mm SLR's as well. This is a quality Sigma product that would be a great addition to your photographic equipment collection. Read more

The Sigma AF 105mm f/2.8 EX DG macro is an excellent lens without any significant optical flaws. The resolution figures are excellent and neither distortions nor CAs nor vignetting is something to worry about. Similar to the Tamron or Tokina counterpart it is basically as good as the much higher priced Micro-Nikkor (the classic one, not the VR). The build quality feels very good although the implementation of the Dual-Focus mechanism isn't really perfect. Read more

If only Sigma decided to equip the 2.8/105 lens with an HSM motor we would have a nearly perfect device. Practically everything, concerning this lens, deserves our praise apart from the work of the autofocus. If you can forgive the Sigma such a slip-up you will get an instrument with exceptionally good optical properties. Read more

The Sigma AF 105mm f/2.8 EX macro DG is a recent update to the well-known Sigma AF 105mm f/2.8 EX macro. It's not a totally new lens (the new DG (Digital) designation refers to an improved coating optimized for digital sensors), but that's not necessarily a bad sign Read more

The 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro sits in the middle of Sigma's range of 1:1 true macro lenses. Keenly priced, it is designed for use with full frame digital SLR cameras, but can also be fitted to DSLRs with smaller APS-C size sensors. It covers a similar field of view to a 158mm lens in 35mm format when fitted to Nikon, Pentax and Sony cameras with 1.5x crop factors or 168mm with Canon DSLRs. Read more

I am not a professional photography by any means. I bought my Canon camera less then a year ago and I knew I wanted to do some macro photography. I read a lot of reviews before buying this lens. I did not have a whole lot of money to spend on a lens so I went with this one because of the price and the reviews. This lens I believe is well built. I have taken some really nie crisp photos with it. Read more

I couldn't afford a minolta or sony macro of this focal length, but have wanting one for awhile. This works great so far, no problems. As other reviews has said, it's a bit slow on autofocusing (well, it's a macro!), but is very sharp and great bokeh when you want it. Read more or see product

I spent a lot of time researching this purchae. I wanted a good, fixed focus telephoto lens for my Olympus E3. The reviews on the Sigma lens were all very high. In use it produces very sharp and color true images. The relatively fast 2.8 aperture is a benefit. After almost a month with the lens I am very pleased with the performance. I find only one drawback and that is a slowness of focusing when going from telephoto to macro. Read more

This was my first macro lens and I still kept it after buying the 150mm as it has a lot to offer. Ultimately the bigger lens may just have the edge on image quality but this is sharp and capable of great results. I kept it because the 105 is actually easier to use as its effective depth of field is greater (sharpness rolloff from focal plane is less severe), making focus easier and its compact and lightweight form makes it ideal to carry around all day or when... Bought this to do some macro photos and have ended up using it also for some great portrait shots and general telephoto work. It is a fast lens which is good for low light or short DOF, and in good light focussing is quick and precise. I use it on my Canon 40D and it feels nice on the camera. For real close up work a tripod is a must as you have to use f8 or more to get some depth into the photo. Love it. Read more
