Great 400mm reach and the OS works a treat..Grab a good used one if you can

Summary: Fantastic cheaper alternative to the Nikon lens of the same size and f-stops.The EX branding ensures a solid build and although the AF is a little slow (as is the NIKON) this lens is a fantastic piece of gear for the photographer who wants a large telephoto lens with optical stabilization.A great Sigma to pick up second hand if found in good condition as it is better built than the Sigma !
Summary: For half price the lens has a few used issues but have already got some of my best pictures with it. May need to send in to have the mount tightened, just need to keep a close watch on it, if it remains as it is I will be using it for a long time. Should have asked more questions before bidding when I found it listed decided to put in a max bid at the last second and won it. There are no scratches or dings and is a very sharp lens for its age.
Summary: I've used it since Aug 2005. The very first test is an airshow, OS worked well for me, success rate is very high. Very heavy for a whole day event, better train your left arm before events like this.Used last year for wild life in Grand Teton and Yellowstone, OS helped a lot in low light conditions and on a car. Still need extra each if you are shooting wolf packs...It seems to consume more power, so consider your power budget for long trips.
I am disappointed whit the sharp that this lens offer

Summary: I own this lens since 2006.It is a good lens, de OS (Optical Stabilization) works OK in my Nikon D200.The zoom is great, but the sharpness that this lens deliver is not enough sharp that other lenes. I know that it is not a premium lens, but if you compare the shots taken between this lens and the Nikon 80-400VR you can find the difference of the price that you pay for the Nikon lens.I don't want to say that the sharp is poor; the sharpnes in every shot is good for...
Summary: This lens while somewhat heavy is a solid performer in everyway. The optical stabilization (OS) works very well and Ihand hold this lens about half the time. I use it at football games and as long as the field is welllit it performs fairly well in low light. The autofocus can be somewhat slow particularly in low lightbut it's something one can work around. Image quality is excellent, almost 'L' quality.
Sharp, great contrast, stabilized -- similar to Canon "L"

Summary: I've had this lens for almost 2 years. It is very sharp, great contrast -- to my eyes, the results are every bit asgood as Canon L glass. And the range of this zoom isincredible. And yes, the optical stabilization (OS) does work. Maybenot quite as well as the latest-generation Canon IS, but itworks darned well. This is esp important for me, as I do alot of hand-held shots. The only downside is that the autofocus isn't particularlyzippy.
