  • Summary: Fantastic cheaper alternative to the Nikon lens of the same size and f-stops.The EX branding ensures a solid build and although the AF is a little slow (as is the NIKON) this lens is a fantastic piece of gear for the photographer who wants a large telephoto lens with optical stabilization.A great...

  • Summary: This lens is amazing. It is razor sharp, and the contrast and color is top notch. The only reason to buy the Canon EF 400mm 5.6 L would be to stop down the aperture. I have a newer EOS digital body that I use it on and it can only be used wide open, but SO WHAT?!

  • Summary: For half price the lens has a few used issues but have already got some of my best pictures with it. May need to send in to have the mount tightened, just need to keep a close watch on it, if it remains as it is I will be using it for a long time.

The Cannon

  • Summary: Who cares if Sigma discontinued this model and went to the 150-400, the lens still does a great job. Its built well and might be considered a bit heavy, but it relays your ideas on to the screen or paper. The picture is sharp and detailed.

Sigma 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG OS APO review by c_4

15 September 2009
  • Summary: I bought this lens 2nd hand because I wanted something with extra reach over the Nikkor 70-300VR; the optical stabilizer was also a desirable feature because I like to be able to go handheld in some situations.
  • Pros: Extremely sharp at all focal lengths, very effective stabilizer
  • Cons: very heavy, noisy focus motor, turning on OS makes it noisier

Steady and ready;What a lens!!!

  • Summary: Sigma has delivered a reasonably priced vibration resistant or compensating glass which will deliver crisp, sharp images at marginal lighting situations. No, it isnt 2.8 but it isnt %$5000 either! For sports and wildlife this is an unimaginably great addition to your kit.
