Summary: Hi, i bought this sigma 70-300mm APO Macro on ebay and i put it on my canon 20d camera and it took five pictures and i got the dreaded err99. I took it off and clean the contacts with an erazer and put it back on and the err99 came up again. This time i removed the battery, waited about 5 minutes and put battery back in and i still came up with err99. It just won't work with my canon 20d, maybe it's the firmware. Are there any answers to this madness.
Summary: The first time I put it down to bad luck, the scary grating noise it started to make when it tried to focus. I returned it got a refund (well done Amazon) and bought another. Yet again after about six months the mechanism is failing. When it works it is fine, but I'm not risking a third - time to trade up.
Summary: purchased the Sony fit version; **UPDATED** sent the item back: gears failed after very LITTLE use- total garbage for the price. NOT acceptable quality at all. Loud, distressing, grinding sound and total loss of auto focus. If you search /review (google) this item you will see this is a VERY common fault in many camera forums. Appears that the build quality is not up to standard, and the (plastic?) internal gears DO fail. You then have a very expensive paper weight.
Summary: I really enjoyed using this lens, the reach is great and i found it to generally take nice photos with much better image quality than the standard bundle lens's. However after only a 1.5 years it gave up. The auto focus gear stripped which after searching online is a common problem. I had probably only taken 200-300 photos on 6 or 7 seperate occasions which is really disapointing. Manual focus is still accessible but thats not much use.
