Worth the money?

Brian Leuthold, Amazon

  • Summary: I am not a pro, but do take a lot of photos; especially sports. I am team photographer for my kids soccer teams. I needed something faster for shooting under the lights; this does that. No need for a flash at all. There are circumstances that if in auto mode, the pic is over exposed. If you know how to adjust the camera this can be compensated for. I do wish for a little more zoom length.

The build quality seems to be very good although the lens is not metal like the Canon

  • Summary: This lens was highly rated against the Canon equivalent at half the price. The only complaint was that it was not as rugged as the Canon. I am not a professional and do not subject my equipment to some of the rigors of a working photographer so I don't worry about this. The build quality seems to be very good although the lens is not metal like the Canon. All the controls are smooth in use.

Great lens....

  • Summary: I originally used this lens with my Nikon D300 but it really came into its own when used with my D800. The Sigma VR works well and allows me to shoot hand held at lower shutter speeds without having to use a tripod or monopod. The bokeh is pleasing and the lens has a fast and quiet AF. I have used it for sports, travel, and portraits. It is ruggedly built and is a good alternative to the Nikon equivalent but at a reduced price.
