Great general lens, performs well, relatively good quality, slightly heavy
8 February 2014
Summary: Brought this as a new general lens. I typically shoot a lot of low light events, so I needed a relatively fast constant aperture zoom lens (I have faster fixed lenses). A little heavy (especially compared to kit lens) but very solidly built, image quality is very sharp in the middle, but becomes quite soft as distance from center increases at larger apertures (small f-stop #). Image quality not as sharp for smaller apertures (bigger f-stop #), but still quite good.
Summary: Very good lens. Usable F2,8. Sharp from F3,2. Not bad boke. Relative fast autofocus. Used after Nikkor 18-55 (+18-105 + Tamron 17-50 without stab) - everything is better. Very good and really useful (most for video) optical stabiliser. Stable high quality of photos. Cheap! Small "minus" - stabilizer eats battery, even if it is switched off.
