It's not a bad lens, but I'd recommend saving your money for ...

J. Swift, Amazon

  • Summary: The image quality never impressed me compared to the Canon 100-400mm lens. It's not a bad lens, but I'd recommend saving your money for a higher quality lens if you are picky.

Not a sharp lens

David L. Updegraff, Amazon
2 March 2013
  • Summary: I liked the versatility of 120 - 400 and wanted to use it as a carry around lens. I shot it with a D3S and D4 and could not get sharp images. It was not good for wildlife or landscapes for me. I do have the Sigma 50 - 500 mm lens and that is a good sharp lens. I did put it on a tripod as well to shoot eagles right along side my 50 - 500 mm lens and the difference in sharpness was dramatic.

disappointed

P. Schmehl, Amazon
12 November 2011
  • Summary: I purchased this item just about a year ago. At first it worked fine but recently I have lost the autofocus. I am not able to focus on distance shots. I could use manual focus but my passion is nature and bird photography and quick reaction times are needed to capture the best shots. I cannot believe things just do not last anymore. I will be contatcing Sigma for a replacement.

Not Impressed

Phil UK "Phil UK", Amazon
3 February 2014
  • Summary: I’ve owned this lens for a while and have just sold it so I thought I’d just put my two-peneth on here. I can see everyone else thinks this lens is pretty good, I’m afraid that I didn’t think that. The issues I had with it where that at 400mm it has very poor sharpness wide open (f5.6), it’s better at f8 but still not great by any means by which time it’s a pretty slow lens. I also found that on a Nikon D7000 the image stabilization wasn’t up to it at 400mm.

Fehlerhaft

Adalbert Birkhofer, Amazon
8 June 2012
