Summary: For the money, it's a decent lens. My only complaint is that it photographs softer than I like. Rarely use it anymore. Would put the quality of the glass to that of a kit lens, based on sharpness. So the only thing you're really buying is the convenience of not having to switch out lenses.
Summary: GREAT Lens. This is a great all around lens, it can get the close stuff as well as the far away stuff in fairly low lighting. The only Issue I have had out of this lens, is that the auto focus/manual switch fell out of it one day. It was a simple fix, just a drop of glue put it back in place.
Summary: This Lens is the only one that I carry on field trips, it covers all the Lens opinions I could need. All the shots I have taken with this lens have all been just what I was expecting. All the controls work with a very smooth and precious feel no catching or jerking. The automatic focus work spot on.
Summary: used it for a very long time with my D80 .. after about a year after i bought it .. the zoom lock started malfunctioning but i didn't care at all as long as it hadn't something to do with the actual lens.
Summary: This lens is NOT GOOD! It is soft all over the range, delivering blurry images particularly when at the max of the range. I had tried everything and even some suggestions some friends in the Pentax forum gave me to no avail. So, my advice to you... stay away. It is compact etc...
The motor in the auto focus mechanism does not work
Allison N. Thomas, Amazon
8 August 2013
Summary: The auto focus motor does not work (not a minor repair). The vendor suggested I take it to a camera shop and see if there is a minor repair that can be made and they will reimburse me a portion of the lens sales price. I'll contact the vendor and let the know what the repair shop diagnosed.
