Absolutely terrible at 2.8

Steve Hofmann, Amazon
1 August 2013
  • Summary: I enjoyed this lens...at anything above f/2.8. At f/4 or higher, this thing was tack sharp, but f/2.8 was literally unusable. It looked almost buttery/creamy and it was incredibly soft. I sent it back because I look at it this way. I wanted a 24-70 f/2.8, not a 24-70 f/4.

  • Excerpt: As a travel photographer, I wanted to find a lens that was durable, relatively inexpensive, could cover most situations and still deliver high quality pictures. 24-70 is a good compromise but there are not many options on the market.

Good but not great

Terrill P., Amazon
3 March 2013
  • Summary: Still undecided on this lens....several great photos and several photos that were blurry. The sharp photos are not as sharp as the Nikon version in my opinion. I also had quite a few out of focus photos with the Nikon version as well. It does the job and the build quality is very solid.

BFS Man, Adorama
19 February 2013
  • Excerpt: I bought this lens to go with my D700 and am reasonably happy with it overall. However, on a Christmas trip to the Santa Fe, NM, area I found that I frequently had to dismount/remount it to the camera, as it would occasionally stop metering or focusing when temperatures were in the 20s and 30s F.

  • Excerpt: Pack you patients. It took 3 lenses to get a good one. 1st one came and seemed fine until I was shooting a kids party and all of a sudden my d90 was not communicating with the lens. Turned camera off and on and it was fine, but I missed 2 good shots, kids don't stay still long.
